100 Book Meme 2x

Jul 06, 2008 13:03

A very belated posting. I did this about a week ago, but am only posting it now. Ripped off from wicked_liz here at lj, and from my best friend over at multiply.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.

And furthermore, my daughter, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. )

on reading, jrr tolkien, jane austen, meme, asian authors, anglo-american authors, literature, latin american authors, literary analysis, authors i love

I am taking a break from doing that exhausting meme to spam your journal.

...I am relieved that I have read some books you have not on this list. Somewhat.

Well, it would be scary/weird if we read exactly the same stuff... I can't envision you reading any of my hardcore lit. crit. or marxist stuff. It might bore you to tears.

So long as they are man tears. So long as.

Ah, you're right about this, though.

I tried to be open minded for the movie too - but I was kinda insulted at the get-go, because of Hollywood's racial profiling.

There's a big difference between Chinese and Japanese.

I liked that the movie tried to keep to the beauty and style, but it still failed me.

Hahaha! I didn't watch Da Vinci Code. Albino assassins, oh my!

I love this spoof of Memoirs of a Geisha. That guy from MadTV is really funny. <3 I can't stand all the Hollywood stuff that depict all Asian women as prostitutes. Grr.

Laurie hasn't read Watership Down? *eSends my copy* It's the rabbit book to read. One of my favourites. ^ ^

I realised that lots of the books are YA, so I've actually read quite a lot of them. Yay!

I think the list failed, because readers aren't static creatures. All of us veer off into different genres.

None of my classic sci-fi, horror or even Arthurian fantasy authors were represented. And no pirates. >_It's like my entire childhood came down to Winnie The Pooh (still awesome, twiddly-sticks rocks) and Wind in The Willows (like Animal Farm, sans angst). *feh ( ... )

It's funny you mention the classics in terms of details... my college friends used to praise my stories for my use of the omniscient narrator, and I was just like gee, I'm just ripping off E.M. Forster and Jane Austen here, how could they not notice...? Turns out none of them read either authors at the time. Bleeh.

I totally know what you mean about instant gratification! I can't stand all those dime-a-dozen chick lit books! Everything about 'em just says trash. That goes for the current trend in putting some famous or historical person's name in the title of the book. Sometimes an author can pull off the conceit, but too often it just fails miserably.
