Grr, Barthes. Him and his stupid "Death of the Author." Did Starwing bring him up in that thread? I thought that was Deb. And why do research before participating in the Pairing Debate. You should just wing it. That's what I've done my whole life.

While it wasn't technically the closest book at hand, I had to pull out Vampire Hunter D: Tale of the Dead Town.

Check it!

"Peace must be maintained in town for all time." A voice closer to a groan flowed from beneath the mayor's bowed head. "The conditions now are ideal. But we're still hounded by destruction and creatures of nightmare."

It's awesome how it makes little sense without context.

I read that. I love those novels, but it's so hard to collect them here.

Yeah, Deb brought up Barthes. But before she did, I was already browsing through my shelf of lit. crit. due to something else Starwing said -- about the responsibility of writers to deal with the ghosts of their texts ( ... )

@ Wicked Liz: Yeah, D is awesome. He's so overpowered, it's great. Luckily for me, my local comic book store always has those novels in stock ( ... )

I can't concentrate on reading your book quote right now. I've read it through twice, and I come up with nada. *sniffs*

Good. *hugs Laurie* So 2 out of 5 of my tagged people have replied. Now... let's see if I can persuade Avi to...

He doesn't.

I saw beautiful apricots at an aiport supermarket yesterday. (Was there to pick-up my father.) They were tiny, and round, with pretty furry skins AND they were packed in punnets of about 20 each, sold at the handsome price of S$8++.

(I didn't get them, but let's imagine that I did.) Have one! *hands Laurie a half-punnet*

Nearest book: Ellis Peter, The Pilgrim of Hate.
Unluckily, this book is in French, so I don't think that quoting it would help you XD
So, just one sentence:
"L'éclaireur du messager de l'évêque-légat - à moins qu'il ne fallût le considérer comme envoyé par l'impératrice - pénétra dans la ville et la porte du château en ce même jour, le 21 juin, afin d'être présenté à Hugh Beringar."
It *is* Ellis Peter and her Cadfael (that I love) who gave me the idea for my Priest IchiRuki one-shot (it is the same period, same place).
It was pure luck that I got this one on my desk XD Eslsewise, I would have been forced to pick a roleplaying book LOL, because the bookshelf for them is just near my desk XD

Oh... I don't understand a word of French but I do recognize Hugh Beringar. :) I used to read a lot of Ellis Peters too! I never completed the whole series though... there are so many books. I think my favorite was "A Sanctuary Sparrow." XD

Can I be evil and say I liked Barthes, I actually find him interesting.

Did the meme, on my own journal 'cause I went neurotically overboard. I apologize XD

Barthes? Interesting, hell yes. Understandable? Not all the time! :)

I'll just check out your post. No biggie. XD
