Well I only cheated on my "Bleach-diet" a little. I'm not giving up on it entirely. (I'm weak)
I've got major love for the early stuff, so I can only hope that Kubo intends to finish the series.
It's kinda weird that authors sometimes neglect their fanbase - during the Potter-madness, there was an actual meme going around where you write a fanfic to kill off your fav character in the most awful way possible, so that when the book came out it wouldn't be so hard.
But when a story is really good, even when it eviscerates ur beloved characters, it's still okay. Chapters of BS that seem to go on forever? Not so much.
P.S. At the risk of sounding clichéd; I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm glad that you seem to be doing okay.
Hmm... a "Bleach diet"? I think I need to go on one soon. RL concerns have been neglected shamefully due to love of IchiRuki and time spent online. But yeah, I do hope Kubo finished the series properly. The early stuff is so great, it's really what made us fans in the first place :)
I read all the HP stuff, but I wasn't blogging then so I missed the madness. That's a weird meme -- kind of creepy...
Thanks for the condolences. It's never a cliche. Dumbeldore said death is only the next great adventure; [movie] Gandalf said death is just another path, one that we all must take. Its just too bad that some adventures must be undertaken alone.
Actually I'm still in shock/denial. I identify most with Byakuya and Isshin really, that's how RL loss goes. Ichigo ending up with Rukia is an idealized state of affairs for me.
Volume 21 was already on the shelf at the barnes and noble I went to, two days ago. I thought it was weird, but didn't question it. I hear some libraries have 'em. (My friend's a librarian and she has done some inter-library loans to get caught up on manga and save some cash.) There are also some sights that do the translation for you if you want to get caught up on the story arcs...grrr to wikipedia for telling me too much!
Oh wow. I checked the bookstores here (I live in SE Asia) and volume 21 has yet to reach our shores. I'm expecting it to hit the shelves in two weeks or so. Its kind of crazy to collect official English-translated manga here because only limited number of copies are available. Ordering from Amazon just for one book would be nutty since the postal tax would cost more than the book itself! Ahh, the perils of trying to support legit merchandise...
I'm sorry to hear that your fiance died. As I've never suffered a loss that great in my own life, I cannot really understand the pain that has caused you, though I can wish you and his family the best. And if you're recovering nicely, that's great.
As for any drags in the Bleach manga (or any other manga), I find that purposely allowing yourself to get behind can help a lot. Those slow chapters aren't as bad, in my opinion, in large doses when it's not so apparent little to nothing is happening.
I'm not sure how you stuck through the Kenshin fillers, though. I abandoned that show around episode 70 and went to the manga.
Thanks. You are lucky not to have suffered a major loss yet; it's not something I would wish on anyone but it does happen. It has a lot to do with how seriously I got into Bleach. I mean, it's about death after all.
It's a good idea to take in a fandom in large doses -- I did get up-to-date on Bleach both anime and manga -- in three months. I'm scouting around for something new, perhaps you have a title to suggest.
I stuck through Kenshin because I was also going through a tough time in my life at the time, and one of my best friends practically forced it down my throat. LOL It was our bonding topic.
Just want to say that I've enjoyed your posts in the IchiRuki FC at BA, am very impressed with your fics, and I'm very sad to hear about your loss. I hope the sweetness of your fiance's memory stays and that the pain goes away. Manga can be wonderful therapy. Being a Bleach fan for the past few years has helped me through some rough spots.
Anyway, I friended you. I admire your wit and humor. I'm always happy to meet people like you in fandom.
OMG! You friended me! I'm so flattered. I've left a few reviews for you at MediaMiner but since you never responded I thought you get tons of positive responses all the time, so I was like, shy. :) When I started reading Bleach, and Bleach fanfiction, yours were the first stuff I read -- but of course I was in lurker mode at that time.
Anyway, thanks for reading my fics too :)
Yes, getting into anime/manga again has been therapeutic for me. While I can't even say whether I'm recovering or still in shock, at least Bleach has helped me get interested in life again, pick up the pieces, and try new things. Besides, it's really great to meet people like you. :) I know we'll be talking more as in the next couple of days, or weeks. :)

*hugs* thanks for the concern.
