Credit Card Security Breech Advice

I have a credit card. I use it. I give it to someone for an important transaction today. Lalala. I go to the website to do my regular balance check, and.... I can't log in. I see it's been closed.

I call up two numbers. The first guy said my card was reported "lost or stolen". I said, "But it's right here!" The second guy told me that someone else

I don't have a good grasp of this bit of the current law, but maybe the fine folks at Consumerist would have a better idea. They spent a lot of time blogging the credit card reform bill when it was still in Congress.
