I'm thinking of maybe shaving my head this summer. Whether or not I do that, I'm thinking of dyeing my hair some kind of crazy color(s) for a while beforehand.

Poll hair questions

Edit:I forgot to have a question about how funny I would look with a shaved head. Personally, I just can't envision it at all. If you have any opinions on that, though, include them in ( Read more... )

Frankly, most people don't really look good with a shaved head. In general, but not you know _always_, two kinds of people look really good with shaved heads:

1. non-thin men
2. thin women with striking features

That being said, I don't think most people look really bad with shaved heads, either. So, if you're willing to do it, I recommend doing it once just to see how it feels -- it feels great.

It turns out, I have a lumpy head and not only do I not look good with no hair; but, I look funny.

As for the hats question: No, you should not stop wearing hats. :D

Huh, I hadn't thought about what groups of people look good with shaved heads. I'm pretty sure I'd look silly, partly because my head is small. And I fear that my hats mostly wouldn't fit for a little while (I can't really imagine stopping wearing hats -- though I'd probably wear them a little less for a while if I had interestingly colored hair to show off). But I'd like to see what a shaved head feels like.

Do you have pics of you with a shaved head? :)

When one of my boy-toys showed up one day with a shaved head, I told him it felt just like a head, only larger. ;)

I think you would look fairly funny with a shaved head. OTOH, that bit right after it starts to grow out when everybody wants to feel your fuzz could be pretty enjoyable. Maybe you should try a crew cut instead.

Yeah, I'm really not doing this because I think it would look good. More of a tactile and "what the hell, I should try it" thing. :) Crew cuts have never appealed to me, somehow.

Then keep in mind that somewhere between a shaved head and some reasonable length hair (however that may be defined) there is a crew cut. :)

Ah, I guess so. I was thinking specifically of the very square cut, which I really am not a fan of. Maybe crew cut just implies really short, though, in general. The idea of having really short hair doesn't bother me so much as a stage along the way to longer hair, as a one-time experience. But if I'm going to get a really short haircut at all, I figure I might as well experience the full shaved head experience first.

I'm kinda with her.

(Also, though I've dyed my hair, once, I can't say that I recommend it or disrecommend it; I did it to prove to people that my hair wasn't the color they said it was, but since nobody noticed, I lost the bet. :-))

Ha! That's really funny. :) People just aren't very observant, though. One of my friends got her nose pierced today, and nobody noticed -- and when she pointed it out, several people said something like, "Oh, well, you had your tongue pierced already... I guess I got them mixed up." Which I thought was an anatomically amusing confusion. :)

I am going to do what I want regardless of the poll results -- mostly I just thought people might have fun dyeing suggestions that I hadn't thought of. But I was also wondering how many of my friends would be really freaked out by either thing, since I get freaked out by hair changes.

Will need to bleach before you dye those lovely colors. Recommend having a friend help you do it, if you don't do it professionally. Definitely recommend doing weird things to your hair before you are in a job where they frown upon that.

I would say go ahead and shave your head just for the experience (tactile or otherwise). I am not so brave to try that myself. Some people definitely look better than others with shaved heads--but you wouldn't be doing it for the looks. I am getting tired of figuring out how I should get my own hair cut-- shaving it entirely eliminates that for the short term....

This may be complete rumor and urban legend, but sometimes hair doesn't grow back with the same thickness or waviness (or as much) after you shave it. So that is something to at least consider.
Anyone else heard of this?
