Tragic accident at Diesel Cafe

Kelly: Today we take you to the scene of a fatal accident at Somerville's popular Diesel Cafe. There was some kind of explosion, and at least one young woman is confirmed dead. We go now to our correspondent on the scene, Rob. Rob, can you tell us more about what happened?

I am so so very glad that I considered graduate school for only roughly 11 nanoseconds. Oh, um, sorry, I guess that isn't exactly the most sympathetic response. I am sure that you will find that all the pain and cramming will be worth it, when you pass with flying colors (what colors are those, anyway?) and get to move on to further stages of graduate school. Which for some reason you want to do. And more power to you!

Right now, I'm not at all sure that I do want to go on (and I don't just mean "right now" as in "today" -- I've had doubts for a while). But it seems like a bad time to be thinking about that at all, since it just makes it harder for me to study. I'll wait and make bigger decisions post-quals. I mean, even if I decide at some point to quit, it would still be a good thing to pass my quals first. I must remember that.

Maybe if you pull your hat down tighter it will help keep your head from exploding. :P

What Vito said. And I certainly didn't intend to be discouraging. Not that I think that it was my silly comments that discouraged you. But what I mean is, I think it's really great and impressive that you are devoting yourself to the pursuit of knowledge. So you keep right on doing that, at least until the quals are over. You can think about the bigger picture later.
