I've been on a smoothie kick lately, eating them for breakfast for about a week. Here's the recipe I've been hooked on so far ( Read more... )

I usually use 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup oj, 1 banana, 1/2 cup of frozen fruit or berries.

Serve with bacon. ;)

Sounds awesome, especially the serving suggestion! *grin* (I almost wish bacon were as quick to prepare... except then I would probably have monstrous amounts of bacon every day, and I'm torn about whether that would be a good thing.)

But microwave bacon is vastly inferior to properly prepared bacon.

I use unsweetened soy protein powder, and usually also cocoa powder. You can get all sorts of things in powdered or liquid form, I guess. I tend to see a lot of the rest of the smoothie as there to hide the taste of the soy protein -- I'll have to try tofu to see if I like that better. I often put ice cream or nutella in it, too (to hide the taste of the soy) -- not exactly a health food, but it gets protein into me.

Whole Foods might have some frozen fruit you haven't tried -- the main one that Shaw's doesn't have is cranberries. I splurged for acai pulp once, and it was really good, but they didn't have it anymore the last time I was there (just random blends that I am too much of a control freak to buy).

Yeah, getting more protein into me is important, and that's why the tofu is in there (which I don't really taste at all). I think I still need more than I'm getting, though; maybe adding some protein powder would be more efficient. It tastes gross though, huh?

I'm a big fan of peanut butter in smoothies, especially in combination with banana and/or chocolate. If you like melon, that can also be good (cantaloupe for me), and mango, of course, is near the top of my list among the frozen fruits to toss in. Avocado is delicious in smoothies if you like it in the first place.

*nomsipnom!*

I'm looking forward to peanut butter & banana, and possibly chocolate in small amounts! *grin*

I didn't know frozen mango existed! OMGyum! And avocado... I definitely like avocado. What do you combine it with, though? *ponder*

I freeze the bananas. Makes the thing realllly creamy. (And I don't use milk or yogurt or tofu in mine. Just juice and fruit.)
