I was talking to the kids yesterday about pop culture, in general, and had this somewhat deflating exchange...

me:  Do the kids at school talk about television shows much?

younger son:  reflects...  No, not so much.

me:  I ask because when I was your age, we all watched the same television shows and talked about them at school the next day.

Hee! So funny Lauren. I can picture him totally believing TV was new for you. I mean, since electricity was invented not long before, right? ;-) (I get that sort of comment from my little brother and sister, age 11 and 15. I think we've talked too much about all the technological advancements in the past few decades!).

I think Doctor Who is still a great family show, but that probably doesn't air in the US at a suitable time. My parents were very strict with my TV viewing, but the youngest two watch anything they want (partly a sign of the times, partly because they have a different mother). My sister will cover my eyes when something she knows I will find scary comes on, and she's been doing that since she was about 5. It's a bit worrying that things that scare/horrify me don't bother her the slightest. I don't know, maybe she doesn't have my overactive imagination. I know she and her friends still talk about TV shows a lot though, but maybe that's partly because we are quite behind the times with tivo only recently becoming ( ... )
