Thanks! I did wonder if they would have kept that part of the ceremony because you know, former enemies and all that but decided they were going for as traditional as possible.

Because that would involve actual effort on Kishimoto's part? I mean, it's so much easier to write about their ETERNAL HATRED than deal with the politics necessary in them getting along (which would have had to happen in order for Konoha to exist anyway).

Well, strictly speaking, they don't live in the Japanese world, so any ceremony one wrote would have to be Japanese-inflected, but not necessarily Japanese--they have their own unique mythology and folklore, rituals probably have something to do with that (my headcanon is that the Uzumaki sealing scholars have a religious affiliation to the Rikudo sage...). And yes, I feel like they would totally keep the cups, given that that particular tradition was about checking for poison :D

I KNOW. Truce!fic is the greatest desire of my life. By the way, have you taken a look at the gyokusho project (gyokusho dot livejournal dot com) which is a MadaHashi project run by the peerless and and has a BEAUTIFUL founding-of-Konoha ethos...

That's what you'd think. I still can't stop cringing at a really long Itachi fic that had him playing football and watching TV as a kid plus a whole host of other things that made me wonder if the author had even been watching/reading the same series I had, you know, the one not set in Japan.

I know nothing about the history of literacy in Japan but if it was anything like the one in England, then the Uzumaki having a religious connection would make sense. Because it would be easy for them to start off as monks of some kind, guarding knowledge of the Rikudo's sealing techniques, then they start secularising and using the knowledge for more mundane purposes, and eventually somewhere along the line they become a clan.

Oh, I didn't know that but it seems appropriate. xD

By the way, do you mind if I use your Mito for this vicious plot-bunny that just attacked? It's something about an aunt who doesn't use the longevity technique and why and ties into her not teaching Tsunade it.
