Am rather busy writing at the moment, but I wanted to pop in and share links and images. It's a sort of internet time-travel....

1) Inspired by this fantastic Victoria Glendinning article on Sir Tom Stoppard. Key quote, and the inspiration for this post: As a public figure and as a private person, Stoppard would have seemed no more or less ( Read more... )

Re your item three: I saw Joni Mitchell and Tom Scott and the LA Express touring behind Court and Spark and they opened with that song; she came on to play the piano part after five minutes of jazz improvosation on the theme and it was grand.

Julia, oh, jeez, just noticed the time, slept in for an hour and a half and the whole morning's shot

Oh, that's a memory to cherish! (The musical experience, not the sleeping in. However, I think you NEEDED the sleep, so cherish that too.)

Hah! I just realized I was interrupted the other day whilst reading your post and did not reach the part about you actually getting to READ the Addison & Steele. How lovely!

I've been in re-reading mode myself of late for mental comfort food, so I can only applaud a good re-read of Gaudy Night. After rewatching the television play, I need to go back to the original source material and pick up all the bits they left out while foolishly rehashing footage from previous episodes every.damn.time.

hugs!

Addison and Steele are v. soothing, in their early 18th-century way. :-) So thank you.

Hugs hugs and cheers for mental comfort food!
