The Poldark novels are also pretty good. Perhaps I should reread those, it's been many years, and I've run out of books that appeal.

Platform shoes are very scary in many ways. Platforms by nature must be stationary, right? In a rare watching of American Idol (American Idle) I saw a young contestant fall, wearing some of those. I think I'll leave them for those seeking danger.

And the big project, when it is finished, must become available to us eager readers, somehow!

I'm not good at recommending reads for other people, but I'm currently intrigued by CJ Sansom's historical mysteries--maybe you too would like a hunchbacked Tudor lawyer? Or not?

You speak rightly on the stationary nature of platforms! They so often only look good when one is standing still -- or poss. being carried around by burly men. In any event, not really relevant to my life. ;-)
