Renovation and Hooves

A quick series of thoughts:

*I've been sadly delinquent since... ever... in the upkeep of my house. (I spend my money on Diet Coke with Lime, travel, books, and cowboy boots -- although I still haven't sprung for a pair of Luccheses, and I wants them, my precious... Okay, yes, I totally, totally get that this is improvident.) This spring, however ( Read more... )

If you have a mid-century Florida rancher, you can paint your house whatever color you want. In their original incarnation, they were quite brightly colored. My parents have had their house a rather nice shade of sage green for nigh-on 40 years, but when they bought it, the whole thing was shell pink.

I rather like the idea of a pink house. Though if I ever were to buy a rancher, I'd probably go with daisy yellow.

Sage green has made a comeback here in the Small Town, I have to say, and it often looks great -- but not with as many contrasting shrubs and trees as I have. (And I've seen disasters with green, too: ex. a seafoam green house which looks great at twilight and horrific every other time.)

I'm thinking buttercream with trim in a yet to be determined rich blue. ;-)

Go wild, I say. :-) If not outside, then inside.

Happy writing, happy pondering of possibilities!

The interior of my house is v.v. colorful, it has to be said. ;-)

Hugs hugs, and get well soon!

Those shoes look like the rubber bells that Tennessee Walking Horse trainers used to use to get horses to increase the height on their front feet. Not worse than the dyed fur booties Zac Posen is showing for fall.

My house is soot-brown with red and green trim; I need to redo the trim this summer when the front stoop is given ramps. I have to look out at two subdivisions where the covenants decree shades of aging oatmeal and brown rice, and I would rejoice if comeone painted their house a nice old-fashioned midcentury modern color like burnt coral or azalea or Carolina Blue.

Julia, there is one house in the closer sub-d which is the palest possible yellow, like butter in the depth of winter, with barely greenish grey trim: nice, and individual, but still rather blah

I saw those Zac Posen fur booties. [withholds comment]

I send good thoughts for redoing your trim this summer! And I sympathize with your displeasure at the blandness of so many home-association-ruled subdivisions. Although I live in a small town where we are free to pursue our fancies [grin], I know too many people locked into blandness.

For myself, I'm thinking of a rich color to set off a palest buttercream for the body of the house.

Happy Sunday!

Your idea of eclecticism in knobs is a good one... but then the handles would compete with the antique glassware I've inherited, which now are the shimmering focal point of the kitchen. Hmmm. [ponders]

Hugs and happy ponderings and springtime joys, C!
