Oils are a whole different scene than acrylics. If you're used to being able to paint a background, then going in and painting something over it, doing that with oils takes about 2 weeks! But oils are wonderful, in that you can just throw the paint on and mix while you paint. It would be damn near impossible to do a sky like this one with acrylics! Its hard, once you get used to a medium, to go to something else. I have huge trouble with watercolors, because I'm so used to how to paint with oils!
I love the sky! And, I agree with melissabee about the grass.
Ah, Sarles . . . I remember getting those chicken sandwiches at the cafe. And listening to Def Leppard and REM. And driving on the backroads giving local drivers the two finger farm greeting. (I guess all the roads around Sarles are backroads, huh?) And finding that god-awful romance novel at the library . . . Savage something or something savage. What was it again? Savage Passion . . . Savage Love? And eating that decadent chocolate cherry cake that your grandma made. I got the recipe from her . . . I wonder what I did with it. Ah, memories.
Savage Ecstacy!!! I still remember it, how it had that biiiiig crease in the binding, and it just fell open to that rape scene... good times...
and the melted gummi mermaids? and the horrible lady at the cafe? and playing with the Ouija board? And yeah, the Def Leppard and Cinderella! And we had REM in a boom box and we walked around playing it! And crimping each others' hair! Those were such good times! :)
I LOVE this painting! I think it might be one of my favorites...the sky and the grass look amazing and the well itself is perfect. I wouldn't change a thing.
It looks great. Certain aspects of it look like a photograph. I saw the top half or so and was surprised when I scrolled further down--I'd thought it was a slightly aged photo, at first.

I tried AGAIN this week to paint with oils... it is NOT the medium for me. My hat's off to you for rockin' the oils.
