The school is really bizarre. It's obviously pretty modern, yet in the amount of time since it was built the whole town was abandoned. What was going on that they had money for a big new school, yet everything fell apart shortly after? Interesting!!!

We saw at least three newer schools, and one really old school with a new addition, which was mystifying in itself.

About 25 years ago they started the big push of 'consolidating' rural schools when the small towns were going through the big ag crisis of the 80s; I wonder if a lot of these were dumped shortly after being built in favor of consolidating to a more central location?

Its totally consolidation! There must have been a bigger, nicer school somewhere else. They're still "consolidating." Bad for those towns; good for me! :P

Very cool set of photos. You're right about the bar versus church thing in the upper midwest. I remember that all too well from my brief time living in Minot.

Thank you! I didn't know you lived in Minot. We were really close to there!

T'was back in 93-94 timeframe, but I spent a lot of time on the roads there teaching sword play when I wasn't on duty at the base.
