Repossession, by Lazuli

So, someone -- miriam_heddy, maybe -- posted a link to the enormously long Spander story Repossession. It's this hellacious wallow of an h/c epic, and it pretty much goes like this ( Read more... )

I have to laugh at you, because -- *99 chapters*. You know, you really know, you have no-one to blame but yourself.

But yeah, there's a potato-chip quality to stories like that, isn't there?

It was only around chapter 85 or so that I started thinking it was outright stupid, in my defense.

...which doesn't excuse me reading past chapter 86, so it's a pathetic defense, at best.

edit: I guess it also doesn't excuse me taking that long to decide it was stupid, does it? No.

I got interested in that pairing at one point a year or so ago, and found that story. I think I probably lasted until around chapter 74 or so before giving up since there wasn't an end in sight.

I think I actually got my fill of Spander for a long time after that. Heh.

I've always been fond of the pairing (though I cannot for the life of me really *see* it), but this is...quite a piece of work. In both good and bad ways!

I think I probably would have gone back and finished reading it eventually had I not fallen off the Buffyverse wagon, and hitched a ride with a couple other shows.

And man, did that sound like a messed up metaphor, or what?

I still watch it from time to time on FX, but not nearly as much as I used to.

eliade's Spander is def. my go-to Spander.

I need to find myself some good Spike/Giles. (Spiles? Ew.)

I read it all the way through when I first started readin Spike/Xander, because it was so recommended. I'll never get that weekend back.

You're so close to the end that you really need to finish it just to see how bad it can get. Really. *g*

Does it get worse in an AWESOME way, or in an "I want to drown my sorrows in booze, and hopefully kill off the brain cells that contain this story" way? This is important to know! I might not have enough booze!

Oh, I wouldn't want to spoil it for you.

ok, I'm not even LOOKING at the story until I get home where there is Scotch.

p.s. I have THEORIES about the underlying plot! I am curious to see how far off the mark they are!

Oh, it was this one, was it? :;g::

I'm one of the few people who was hugely into the pairing back when this was being written and never read this past the first chapter; just could not get into it at all...

Meanwhile, I was all "oh, I'll take a short break from arguing about RPS and just read one chapter" and then it was several days later and my husband had reported me missing and my dog was offended by my personal hygeine![1]

[1] not really but she's a pretty stupid dog

edit: if you want to rec me something to get the taste out of my mouth, I would be grateful. I keep reading additional chapters through my fingers and going "ACK IT GETS SO MUCH WORSE".

That happened to me with Tea and Biscuits which was every pairing in the end except for S/X. God, I ate, slept and dreamed that fic for weeks; totally addicted to it and waiting for a new bit to come out was like waiting for Christmas.

More S/X? Or a different pairing? I've been out of this fandom for a few years but I asked for S/X recs for someone not that long ago and my f-list rallied around in the comments if that helps:
