Weird Pete/Mickey story

The Replacements
My weird Pete/Mickey story.
It's supposed to be surreal. It's after 'Doomsday'.

Rose was curious about that noise she heard coming from downstairs, in the area of the kitchen. It was an odd thumping sound like something was hitting against the wall over and over. She couldn't sleep anyway. She might as well check it out. Probably a piece of something or other had come loose and would continue to bang all night. Even if it didn't bother her, it might wake her mum, and Jackie could use all the sleep she could get at this stage in her pregnancy.

Rose pushed herself out of bed, felt her way down the hall, and shuffled down the stairs. The noise was growing lower and it was definitely coming from the kitchen. She slowly made her way to the room, crossed the threshold, and then stopped dead. The noise was no longer just a thumping. She also heard grunts, heavy breathing, and murmured words.

Quickly Rose slapped on the lightswitch. The sudden brightness briefly blinded her, and when her vision cleared she saw possibly the last sight she had anticipated.

The banging noise had been caused by the kitchen table rhythmically hitting the wall. The reason the kitchen table had been rhythmically hitting the wall was because two people were using it as a substitute bed. The two people using it as a substitute bed were Mickey and Pete.

"Dad?" Rose cried.

He raised his head. "Hi, Rose."

"You and Mickey?" she said faintly.

Pete peeled himself off of Mickey. Rose quickly averted her eyes.

"Hey, Rose," Mickey said with far more cheeriness than Rose considered to be appropriate under the circumstances. He draped his shirt over his middle, while Pete withdrew to stand behind the table.

"What the hell are you two doing?" Rose demanded. "Mickey, why aren't you with Jake?"

"Because I'm not really Ricky," he said, "and Ricky is who he wants."

Rose turned on Pete. "Well, why aren't you with Mum?"

"I'm not really her Pete."

"You got her pregnant," Rose hissed.

"Well, what did you expect?" Pete said reasonably. "She was throwing herself at me and it would've been rude to refuse her. Besides, Rose, I'm not really your dad either."

Rose shook her head, felt a little better, and kept shaking it. "This has to be a nightmare. It has to be. Everything since even before the rift opened is one long nightmare and I'm going to wake up any second, back with the Doctor, and we'll have a right laugh over how stupid this dream was."

"That's right, Rose," Pete agreed, edging towards her. "You just drink this glass of water and relax and when you wake up, you'll see how things really are."

Rose did drink the water, and she did wake up. She wasn't back with the Doctor, Jackie was still pregnant, and her dad wasn't her real dad. She never mentioned her dream to anyone, but the next time she heard a thumping noise in the kitchen she pulled the pillow over her head and ignored it.
