I've seen it so many times, and in so many incarnations. I saw it on Broadway and at the Atlantic before that. I even saw the storied Lincoln Center concert staging in 2005-the workshop that got the show its funding and, I'm fairly certain, locked down the Tony Award for John Gallagher long before he ever set foot on a Broadway stage as Moritz ( Read more... )

Thanks for writing this. There hasn't been something I've felt passionate about as of late, so it was a good read.

I probably would have hated the show in its first incarnation, but since seeing it (finally), I love it. Melchior has the intelligent, introspective and challenging quality (the kind I thought, as a kid, Taylor Hanson had, especially in fanfic -- maybe he does, but I don't know him. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt?) that I tend to fall in love with.

I saw it in November. I drove an hour to Orange County to check out the national tour, and I'm really glad it is.
