John and Carole Barrowman and RTD at the Cheltenham Lit Fest

Oct 12, 2008 23:04

Just back from seeing John and Carole Barrowman and RTD at the Cheltenham Lit Fest, with my brother and his girlfriend. Brilliant afternoon, laughed so much.

And *facepalmed*, of course, with it being John.

John and Carole were on 4pm to 5.15pm, then Caitlin Moran, RTD and John were on 6.15pm to 7.40pm.

All this is a mixture of fact and opinion/interpretation.

The Shallow, the Gossip and the OMG

1. John was the only person RTD etc actually saw for Jack, and he and Phil Collinson were very impressed ;)
2. RTD, JB and DT are all naughty schoolboys
3. John’s tour, next year, will be in May
4. RTD and John will be doing the set tours for the Children in Need competition winners
5. All 3 dogs seem to have their baskets in John and Scott’s bedroom, at night. Charlie and CJ have been playing up; sounds like they’ve been a bit jealous of Harris, the new puppy :( …
6. …Which led to the Four O’Clock In The Morning story: *mistaken moaning* *facepalm* *OMG*
7. RTD doesn’t see much difference between QAF and Merlin, the new BBC series
8. John’s bragging over his looks, after a question about Botox, and preening that what we see now is all just him
9. Carole’s over here, and staying with John and Scott, because she and John are working on another book; all the stories they couldn’t fit in to Anything Goes, rather than just another autobiography
10. John and Gavin have set up a production company
11. John has very nice biceps ;)
12. RTD fancies Russell Tovey
13. And John has a crush on DT
14. Re honours, Caitlin Moran forgot about RTD's OBE, and RTD said Dame John had to be a certainty
15. Caitlin Moran referred to That Incident In Cameron Mackintosh's Garden as a Moment of Love, but John pretty much asked her to leave it there, because there were kids in the audience (John was actually good, for the RTD bit)
16. Mainly luck and charm - that's how New Who is getting away with what the right wing tabloid press would normally be bashing them about
17. The 'bi' in John and Carole's word for their accents, bidialectical, is from Jack's all-encompassing tastes
18. RTD loves Gridlock, for how mad it is
19. The Opryland dance, and the laxative story XD
20. John takes great pleasure in confusing USA McDonalds people with bizarre requests for McFlurries ;)
21. A strange, rambly bit about a Doctor Who theme park XD
22. Carole now has a gay man living in her head, after spending all that time with John, to write the book

The Awww

1. John is very good to his fans, especially the kids
2. John completely adores playing Jack
3. Everyone loves Lis Sladen
4. The TARDIS sets and the Who props make adults cry. Caitlin Moran mentioned the Face of Boe, and the audience squealed and John preened. John was *OMG* at seeing the TARDIS for the first time.
5. John's friend, Laura Mickey, taught him to speak American, after she saw him being bullied about his Scottish accent - we got a lot of gratuitous Scottish accent, too

The Soapbox

1. RTD’s Doctor's companions, other than Jack, have all been female, because there aren’t enough decent parts on TV for women, full stop
2. John again talked about how important family is to him
3. John pretty much said people who are complaining about Maria, Joseph and Nancy should shut up - a person cast in a West End Show is a person cast in a West End Show, and most of the people from all three of those shows have been cast in something. I saw Lee in London, and Helena, Craig, Anthony and Tara have been in touring productions that have visited my local theatre.
4. John's got very little time for X-Factor, it would appear
5. John and Russell are both very happy to be very publicly gay

The Spoilers

1. In a complete HP Lovecraft vein (the same one which didn’t give a name to the aliens who razed Jack’s homeworld), the evil aliens in TW S3 are called simply The 456
2. John doesn’t know if he’s in any of next year’s DW specials, yet
3. And on another show, Russell Tovey is in the full series of Being Human
