I think I'm nearly done, on the whole story. I'm currently on 22,800+ words, and the final word count is likely to be about 26,000 words

I'm not sure if 'paper' qualifications were that important in nursing back then. You had to do your training to become a registered nurse from fairly early on in the 20th century but after that I think it was more of a question of experience and being in the right place at the right time. I've not been able to find out anything concrete about how nurses advanced in their careers at that time, or what training would have been involved. I'll have a mooch around when I have time. Both of the hospitals I've worked in since qualifying were around pre WWI so I should be able to find out *something*.

Just a minor thing - it was actually quicker to get from London to Edinburgh by steam train than it is now.
Really? Wow. I'll send her Cardiff to London and then London to Edinburgh, then.
