In Roman times, this was part of series of celebrations related to Cybele and Attis, representing a cycle of death and rebirth.

Some happy news: we had a joyful, drama-free, and well-attended Hilaria cycle in Palenville this year, including two new priestesses and 14 people around the table for the Hilaria feast. I'm still sad about the people we've lost, but it looks like the community is finally picking up and moving forward....
