Ms. Seabrook-
You will need to bind the edges of the break together, so that the bark edges are touching all the way around the break, and then cover the joint with grafting wax so brace it and keep bugs 'n stuff out of it until the cambium heals.

There are various hormone compounds (sound familiar? :o) available for that sort of repair.
