Well someone liked one of my pictures.

It's nearing the end of the semester again. It's flown by so so fast. I've been very busy. I'm flaking out on a lot of other responsibilities... oh well.

I got accepted into the New Zealand photo exchange. One of my pictures I submitted made the cut. Which means I'm in the running for the Pingyao International Photography Festival. That's ( Read more... )

Congrats on your picture getting accepted!! And I know what you're feeling like with the pictures. It pisses me off how some people throw paint on a canvas and call it art. No, a pig can do that...do something amazing.

Thanks a lot : )

Yeah I try to be open minded about what is and what isn't art, but some of the shit they submitted was just crap. I only got one image in and some idiot gets 4 or 5 images that you could find anywhere on myspace.

I guess that sounds bitter : /

No, I understand how you feel and it doesn't sound bitter. I really do hate how some people at my school just take random pictures and call it art. And then they submit them into art shows and win like 3rd. I'm thinking that anyone can take that, all they did was make it black and white.

Congrats! I love the Pulp Fiction-ish feel of the one selected.

i totally understand what you're getting at. art is supposed to convey a thought,a movement in culture, FEELING. when you look at some pieces of art you're just like...really? what am i supposed to think/feel from this? because all i'm thinking is this person is a douche bag with their head up their ass.

examples: that abortion girl (WTF? YOU HAD YOUR PERIOD IN A CUP)
guy who tied up a stray dog in an art exhibit and didn't feed it for days while people came to WATCH IT DIE!

that's not ART.
neither is taking a picture of your mopey friend holding a dead butterfly in the palm of their hand.

i know my examples are a little more off, but i've just been thinking what the heck is with other people's ideas of "art"?

Honestly I agree with you! I consider a lot of things art that most probably wouldn't. It's hard with photography. Anybody can pick up a camera and start snapping pictures. It's the quality of your work that sets you apart. If your photos look like every other myspace boob's photos then you need to rethink your work a bit.

I'm mixed. I'm all about taking pictures just because they're pretty! That's fun! Who doesn't enjoy doing that? But is that art? Maybe it is. Is it worthy of being put in a competition? Maybe so, but I catch myself looking at these types of work sideways. My brain is torn between: "well that's just good photography," and "well that's art."

I'm not sure if I make any sense.
