For my trade book project, I have to design a short, thematic unit that caters to a multicultural classroom. I have to integrate fiction and non-fiction social studies books, music/drama/visual arts and/or geography, and technology

discrimination: I think of this study with kids I saw on tv.... ask me about it, i can't condense it down in writing
travel: airplanes, flying, luggage, hotels, new languages, new people
immigration: ellis island, new people, family history, boats, traveling
migration: birds
conflict: misunderstanding, pride, fights, anger

I like the idea of using the immigration topic centered around family history- it allows kids to see that immigration and difference is what this country was founded on, and makes it relative to them based on their roots.
