What I love most about the original episode (don't know if you've seen it) is exactly that point - humanity is not alone, and actually the general reaction is common to most species no mattre how big their difference otherwise.
We'll just have to see how it all plays out, won't we? ;-)
Glad you liked it, thanks a lot.

I think I'm sadistic, but I'm kinda looking forward to the fact that Bones, as a doctor, is going to presumably have to watch Chekov get worse before it happens to himself, and there won't be anything he can do about it.

I think I'm right there with you because I'm kinda looking forward to writing it.

The observers are chilling in their clinical assessment of the deaths of sentient beings. Deaths that they caused. *shudders*

I do hope that humanity proves they are different, just as in TOS.

Definitely more than just fretting now! With Bones infected, too, it'll be so much harder to find out what's happened.

Lovely, though.

Deaths that they caused.

Well, they see that a little differently. In fact, it's going to become an important point later on.

The one thing humanity's got speaking for them is one Jim Kirk. If sheer stubbornness is a way to save the universe, he's right there in the front line. ;-) Thanks, hon.

I really like this so far and I'm looking forward to seeing how it's going to differ from the original episode. It's a real credit to your storytelling that even though I know how this is going to end, I'm still totally engaged. :)

Well, maybe I'll change the ending... :P
But in all seriousness, it's really great to hear that you're enjoying this so far. I'm having a real blast writing it (am about to finish the next chapter, actually). It's really strange (and great at the same time) how much of the episode falls into place in the AOS-'verse. I'm ambitious to try and stick to the segments as they aired in the original episode, but some pieces I can't help but change around a little. So far, it's a whole lot of fun, so I'm still extremely grateful for the prompt. :D

You could probably completely change the ending and I'm sure I'd still be happy. ;)

And I hear you about it feeling like an AOS-verse storyline. That's exactly why I prompted it; it felt like it could've really been about Bones and Jim and Chekov (or whomever, though Chekov works so well so far) instead of Trip and Archer and Hoshi.

Like I said, I'm really looking forward to seeing where you end up going with this. :)

My theory is that it's because Trip and Bones are both Southerners. They both have that feverish slur down to a pat. :D
