Bush Hating

Jun 16, 2006 01:07

Why do so many liberals hate Bush? I don't mean disagree with his policies, I mean hate him like he killed their father and raped their sister. I really want to know, I'm not trying to troll or start a flame-war, I just know there are several leftward leaning people who read my journal, and maybe they understand, because I sure don't ( Read more... )

Yeah, I think the overall theme is that never before has politics felt more personal.

And now I'm spamming - apologies.

And apologies for posting on your journal when you have *no* clue who I am. Heheh.

I was linked here by what looked like a standard lj-cut so I thought I was posting on the journal of someone I knew and have only just now noticed it's not. Sorry! :D

Not a problem, I'm just trying to figure out why politics is SOOOOOO personal with Bush, so I don't mind random polite people :)

Bush Jr. had already proven himself a business liability before he was ever elected to the White House. He founded a company whose primary function seemed to be losing other people's money. Not surprisingly, it failed. I don't wonder that people were outraged and worried before he ever made a decision as President. Someone with no head for management should not be in charge of country.

More importantly, there's a point where anyone's politics intersect with their likability. You can't tell me a person's politics are completely disassociated from them, like some kind of floating label. Bush's politics have led to humanitarian travesties, and from where I sit, he is responsible for those decisions, personally.

I should really proof-read my posts. Argh. Now I sound like Bush.

This is to both above posts. For the purposes of this discussion, I don't care whether Bush is a good or bad President. I'm just trying to understand why people hate him. I don't really think Clinton was a particularly good President, but I don't hate him. I'm just trying to figure out what is so abhorant about Bush that people hate him. So instead of trying to defend Bush and his policies, I'm just going to comment on the points that I think might cause people to hate him from the above ( ... )

Here from a link at seldear's journal.

I'm not going to retype all the incredibly valid facts that those who posted before me brought up. What I will mention, is that when I bring up these facts, which are not in dispute, conservatives will dismiss me with the statement, "Oh, you just hate Bush."

No. I really, really don't like what he's done to my country. And pointing the finger of 'hate! hate! you're a hater!' doesn't negate his actions and responsibilities.

On the other hand, in the minds of my conservative acquaintances, it does seem to make it ok that they voted for him. Because goodness knows, conservatives have never hated anyone it's okay to hate if you're a conservative, but not if you're a liberal or progressive.

Amen to that and Sesa's post.

Yes, much of the blame can be foisted off on his advisors and other government types. Does that mean Bush is just a talking puppet and not answerable to their actions? No. (I like puppets.) He is the President. He must be held accountable for the issues others mentioned earlier.

I'm a Republican. But it is becoming less and less my type of party.

You misread me, I'm not calling all the liberals that don't liek him haters. But there are signifigant number out there who do, and that is what I'm trying to understand.

Read back over the comments that describe in detail what Bush has done to America. Many people are absolutely appalled by what he's inflicted on our country and its citizens, and for some of them, hate is an appropriate reaction. I'm beginning to think that whatever you term the emotion, be it hate, dislike, utter loathing, extreme distast, etc, the fact that some people feel it means that they're paying attention to what's happening in America, and they don't like it.

Bush's policies have had personal consequences for many of us. It's not like people can just sit back and say, "Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes." Not with the extent of what Bush has done, and continues to do. He has helped make life worse for many, many people. Maybe he thinks they ought not to take it personally. But I won't tell them that.
