What I Learned on Saturday; Tips for Buying a Haunted House

Feb 23, 2011 21:02

Talk to the neighbors of the property you are interested in, because (at least in Minnesota), sellers are not required to disclose whether a suicide has taken place or if there has been any paranormal activity in the house.

Now I know. And you do too.

I know how you feel, kind of. Our actual sell and move happened over a year ago but now we're in the process of buying a property for the family business. For years, well the past 27 years we've simply rented. The business is now doing well enough for us to invest in our own, although the paperwork for the banks, negotiations with the seller and now the legal side of things (partnership and co-ownership) is slow and frustrating.

That sounds nice and complicated! I can only imagine what a hassle commercial real estate must be, especially the legal bits -- and are you going to have a nice little bundle of fees at the end of it all? There seem to be an enormous number of people who need to be paid in order for me to make myself a debt slave.

I did! I got about half-way through it and then I face-planted into my keyboard. I DID get through to the theory about Chloe's krypto-surrounded heart, and once again I found myself wondering why the showrunners could never think anything like that up. The question is (because I haven't finished): is it legit or is it another head-block by our beloved BDA?

My life is stuck on hold right now, waiting on the seller to decide if she will fix a few things or not. And I need more money. It's exhausting. And my dh will be deployed by the time this all goes through so I get to move by myself, yay...not.

I'm in a good position (as a buyer) in that the seller has already moved out & is currently paying two mortgages, so they have an incentive to get rid of the old one. That sucks about your husband! I hope he stays safe and you have plenty of extra bodies during the move to lift couches & keep you sane.

Wait, I'm confused. A house you are looking into buying is haunted? Or the one you're in now is? O.o

If the place I'm in now is haunted it's gotta be with the world's most boring ghost. All he's done is mess with the stair-way switch-plate.

I don't know the house we're looking at is is or not because the seller doesn't have to disclose that information and so far none of the neighbors have been home to ask about it. But there's always a chance! It's an older house (built 1916) and it's been recently renovated, so maybe something got stirred up....

You have a haunted house? Is it weird if I'm jealous?

I might.

I don't know -- I haven't talked to the neighbors yet. ; )
