Purity of Heart? WTF?

Oct 11, 2010 21:00

Hoping to get a bit of feed-back on this, as I'd like to know if I'm a Lone Nut or if this show really has unhinged itself from all reality.

Evidently, there was a scene in Supergirl that I did not watch (my interest in the episode being focused solely on what people were wearing) in which The Man in Black Darkseid "examined" Lois and found that he ( Read more... )

The sad part is, I'm not "watching" anymore either -- I FF'd looking at the clothes, slowed down for a few of Kara's scenes, then sped up again.

I really need to get a new show. One that's not on cable!

*nods* I've heard great things.
For me, sadly, that's a cable show. But maybe if apeygirl gives me the dirt I can catch up quick....

Haven't been watching at all, but I have to ask, when they say "pure of heart" they are talking about confidence? I'm asking just to be on the safe side cause my definition and their's are so not matching at this point.

That's my understanding, yes: being pure of heart means not having any self-doubt.

Which, as you may have gotten from TEH RANT, was new to me too.

Well I guess that would make sense. Cause if you're pure of heart then you would feel confident in the decisions that you make or does that make any sense?

I just through filling out some applications and taking an assesstment test and then trying to figure out in what TPTB are really trying to say and then them backtracking on everything, that it has left me with a headache, so please disregard the above reply. What has happened to Smallville?

Clark hasn't been Clark to me for a few seasons. :/ I haven't watch this season at all yet. I am kinda on the fence about it.

I have to agree with you about the Christ-like imagery from the s9 finale. That was super heavy handed. I dunno, I guess I liked the show better when I could like Clark.

After last seasons finale where Clark/Zod fought, I completely had a Kathy Bates "Misery" moment where I was talking to the tv. Here's the gist of what happened....

Clark: "Sooo, who REALLY killed Faora?" *all crafty-like.*

Zod: *completely oblivious to the fact that ALL of the Kryptonian's have super-hearing* "Uh, that was me."

Me: And all the kids cheered! But I didn't cheer. I stood right up and started shouting. This isn't what happened last week! Have you all got amnesia? They just cheated us! This isn't fair! ZOD WOULDN'T HAVE WHISPERED A COCK-A-DOODIE CONFESSION!

Needless to say, my husband slept with one eye open all night. But, that is what I expect from Smallville's writers now ( ... )

I have had more than one of those moments over the years. I think my last one was during Doomsday, when Chloe told Jimmy "It was all for you". Um, Chloe? Didn't you just get done telling Clark a few episodes ago that it was all for him?

I guess by now I've just come to consider that stuff part of the show's charm (not really. But I'm trying to stay off the juice, and if I think about it too hard, well...).

The thing about confidence, though, is kind of scaring me. Continuity issues are one thing; basing the hero's heroism on "self-assurance" just sounds asinine. As someon on TWoP pointed out, Torquemada was probably pretty sure he was on the right path, too.

The way that they've "developed" Clark the past few seasons have been disgusting. I was really hoping that when Lana left he would take his head out of his ass and step up and yes in alot of ways he has. I've always seen Superman as one of the more self righteous of the superheros but SV takes it to a whole new level and the worst part is their version hasn't EARNED the right to feel that way. Clark is arrogant and judgemental to a fault a BIG fault. It blinds him to what others need so in some ways I agree with Jor-el's assesment but the way he goes about teaching Clark "lessons" have always disturbed me he treats him like a child withholding powers, attention and affection, and most of the time I'm like "Hello you're a computer." It has no concept of emotion it's cold and calculating and worst of all manipulative. If this is where Clark's supposed to learn how to be the hero the world needs no wonder the world and the audience is stil waiting!

I've always seen Superman as one of the more self righteous of the superheros ... Clark is arrogant and judgemental to a fault a BIG fault.I wonder if this isn't the problem... When I first heard about SV I initially blew it off because I've always thought of Superman as being a little preachy and I had no interest in that (and I don't think I would have ever given the show a chance if I hadn't happened to catch a rather Chloe-heavy episode one night). And yes, Clark has been quick to point fingers, esp. wrt his relationship with Lex, but I kind of thought that at some point he would also realize "Hey, I helped make that mess." It's something I thought the producers were trying to do a little bit last year w/the Zod arc, Clark realizing that he needs to give people a chance (because isn't THAT a Supermanly quality as well?) but turns out no joy ( ... )
