This is gorgeous. Your characterizations are spot on, and I just hurt with them, both of them. It's fantastic.

*agrees*

thanks for linking this; it was beautiful to wake up to. this is one of the few fics that made me feel much of anything for buffy; i generally have much more sympathy for spike's constant heartbreak.

awesome fic.

Oh, thank you, hun. In the fandom it's pretty fair to say that most of us love and root for Spike, not Buffy. But, I think it's important to explore why Buffy was acting the way she was. We never got a strict sense of it on the show, what she was feeling, because she kept it in. Spike was constantly referring to his thoughts on their relationship, but all you got from Buffy most of the time was what she wanted him to hear, not what really motivated her. I tried to explore that here - why Buffy said and did these things, how terribly damaged she was emotionally and mentally. People like to call her a bitch during this season, but I don't think she was. I think she was terribly traumatized and this was how she dealt with it. It's not pretty, and most of us wouldn't agree with her decisions, but they were done for a reason, I think, so this is my take on that. Thank you for commenting and reading. More soonish.

Thank you so much, ellcrys. This story will definately deal with both of them forging through the pain to rediscover themselves and hopefully accomplish some healing in the process. It's great to hear I nailed the characters, especially Spike, as some thought he was a bit aggressive here. In some ways, this was my take on what if Spike hadn't let Buffy walk all over him and had stood up, in a sense, to her abuse.
