Due to unforeseen circumstances, we’re going to be pushing back the breach until Saturday. It will still last as long, so it will be from the 18th to the 21st.
Now, for the actual plotting. For those of you unaware of what a breach is, it is when the Barge is literally torn apart by turbulence. It is different from a flood in that all inhabitants are affected by the magic while the Admiral sits around and eats bonbons makes the repairs. Everyone is part of it and no one remembers who they really are. So, for this one, we are all taking a trip to a carnival. But not just any carnival…a freakshow carnival set in the Prohibitionist Era.
You have two choices for your characters: townspeople or members of the carnival.
So you want to be a Townsperson:
If your character falls into this category, then they are mostly your good, religious prohibitionist type. They can visit the carnival, react accordingly, and chatter amongst themselves about it. This would be a good choice if you think you might not be around a whole lot.
So you want to be a Carnival member:
This is where it gets a bit more complicated. You can be a part of the Freak Show itself or a side show attraction if you want to be in the carnival. Other options include roustabouts (rousties) who put up all the tents and rides, do all the repairs and packing, etc. They are also the ones who operate the rides and work as bouncers. Your character can also be a cooch dancer. Just make sure that you spread it all out and we don’t have too many bearded ladies in the show!
Setting and Story:
Remember your time period. This is the 1920s-early 1930s out in the middle of nowhere. The town used to be nice and good and law abiding until the carnival turned up and twisted it all on its head. Needless to say, most of the townspeople aren’t happy about this.
You can play out logs in the carnival itself or around town. This can be as simple or as complicated as you like. Feel free to play out your crackish interactions for a day or so, but then, there will be an uprising from the townsperson horde, descending upon the heathen carnival. And the Admiral will manage to bring you back before anyone gets seriously killed by townspeople and their torches.
Technology:
The communicators have always been around. Your character should know how to use them and should not be surprised that they are there. They are simply a part of their world and have all the functions during the breach that they do while on the barge.
As far as powers go, everyone will be normal, human folk. Unless your character is a freak, of course, and that will be handled on a case by case basis. No magic, however, will be allowed.
So get to plotting folks. Feel free to put any questions you have here and keep checking back, as this post will be updated if need be.
