Breach: A Very Special Barge Episode

Dec 14, 2011 11:11

As Galinda would have said, "Fellow Bargians":

From Friday the 16th to Monday the 19th, the Barge will be experiencing a full breach. For those of you that are new to the game and have yet to encounter one, I'll explain. A breach is when the Barge brushes up against a world or worlds a little too vigorously and rather than springing a little leak or taking on some 'water' up on deck, it fully breaks through the hull and explodes the outer layer of the Barge. Rather than killing everyone inside, it just drastically changes everything. With few exceptions, everyone is affected. This is one of those cases where everyone will be affected -- BUT, by your choice, the least your character will be affected is that all of what will happen in this time will seem perfectly normal.

And what is going to happen? Well, as the calendar says, we're going to be experiencing a Very Special (Sometimes Holiday) Episode of the Barge. Or rather a Very Barge Holiday/A Very Special Episode of The Last Voyages. For those of you that want to play out more secular things (we realize this month is very festive-intensive), there are special, no less crazy options for you to explore. Everything and every one has changed in some bizarre and special way however:

There's an unusual leak in the CES again, and so the Barge goes from being a ship to a snowy mountain village with a LOT of cabins, with a communal bathhouse, a library, a small hospital, and a cafeteria/kitchen at the center. The 'CES' would be indicated by a deep forest just over the hill, but the entrance is fenced off. The breach aspect of this is that nobody seems to realize this is abnormal -- just the Barge looking a little extra festive!

Another thing no one seems to notice is how THEY have changed, unless their particular 'special' is centered around them going through a special change. The kind that requires changing up the whole tone of their 'story' to get serious. Maybe Arthas got his period. Or maybe this is the time for O'brien to learn how to say no to drugs. Who knows :| And then of course there are Holiday Special type changes. The Admiral talks in trombone noises, a la Peanuts adults. But for some reason most everyone seems to understand him just fine. (In fact, some people might either look like peanuts kids or just talk. In that weird stilted voice. That all kids seem to have in that show.) Some might feel compelled to burst into Rankin/Bass songs. (Some might turn into little wooden puppet/claymation versions of themselves.) Just suggestions to throw out there. Also, snow men seem to come to life if you build them and put a hat on them :| Fair warning. Someone might decide to steal all the decorations and gifts. And as is natural for Holiday Specials, people find themselves moved by the holiday spirit even if they're from a world where it's not celebrated. Like it's some kind of interdimensional tangible thing. (An example of this would be Skeletor rescuing children in the old Masters of the Universe cartoon because THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT COMMANDS IT. -- Yes this shit totally happened.)

Oh, and finally. There are talking Christmas Critters in the CES. They might be Satanists, but they sure do seem jolly. Probably best to avoid at all costs.

Questions, concerns, or comments are welcome and encouraged. Need us to elaborate on something? Not sure about something else? Need suggestions? Ask away (and to make mod questions more visible, include MOD QUESTION in the subject heading of your comment so we can find it.)

EDIT: There's been a change to the plotting. Disregard all references to the Barge. You're not Wardens and Inmates. This is just a mountain town and you're all returning home for the holidays. The CES is just a forest surrounding the town. No communal bath house since your homes probably have their own bathrooms and kitchens. The Cafeteria/Kitchen is now the Community Center and it's just tradition for there to be big meetups and feasts on the major evenings throughout the month. Attendees give donations which are then given to charity. Please revise your plottings accordingly.
