Shilo had escaped level six without much issue, her heavy boots clunking on the floor as she ran. Her heart was pounding and that wasn't good. Once she reached level five, Shilo tried to calm down, pressing a delicate hand to her chest and closing her eyes.

Whoever Sylar was, he was being nice and Shilo was not going to turn down a friend. Never. Taking one last slow, deep breath; Shilo made her way down the hallway, wrapping her fingers around her pendant. "H-Hello?"

She called out, voice trembling with nerves. "Um... Mr. Syler?"

Sylar tilted his head in confusion at the figure he saw approaching him. It couldn't be real.. it couldn't be. His adoptive mother was walking hesitantly toward him. She seemed almost to be staggering, looking at him in the same disappointed and ashamed glare she had used with him when he had killed her. It couldn't be, but here she was. It hurt him. Instantly he rushed toward her, insides wretching at the idea of hurting her again. He just wanted to be special. He had never meant to hurt her..

"Mom?" He mouthed the word, suddenly finding his voice lost. Immediately he began rushing forward. His face was contorted in anguish, the first truly heartfelt emotions he had expressed here on the barge coming forward. Both arms were stretched outward, desperate to feel the love and acceptance he had felt once, so long ago. This was a place people came when they died. Why shouldn't his mother be able to come here? "How are you here?"

Shilo froze when her eyes set on Sylar. It wasn't. It couldn't be real it just couldn't. The tall man, dressed in dark leather, the blue lights shining in the eerie helmet. He walked in long strides, coming at Shilo with his scalpel in hand. "D-Dad?"

She whimpered, stumbling back and nearly falling over, tripping over her own feet. "D-Daddy? Dad?! Stop!" She yelped, covering her face with her arms. This couldn't be real. Nathan would never hurt her. Not the father she knew but she also knew of Nathan's darker side.

Her wrist com beeped, the robotic voice reminding her of her medication. 'Blood pressure warning: medicate immediately.' Finally she fell, her vision slipping in and out of focus. "Please... p-please don't... I-I need m-my pills..."

"Mother, I don't understand.."

He was beside her in an instant, dropped to his knees with both hands out toward her shoulders though she seemed to shrug them away. Still she held a look of utter shame, a look that had been burned into his memory. He had wished never to see that expression on her face again, to feel the same hurt and agony inside of him that it provoked. He couldn't hear the communicator on her wrist warning her about her blood pressure. The illusion had enveloped him entirely. All he saw was his mother collapsing to her knees, falling almost the same way she had that day.

"I won't hurt you," he promised, the Gabriel in him coming out entirely. The monster was gone. Without the hunger in the back of his mind and with the renewed, obsessive desire to be someone special, he couldn't help it. He wanted to be the best version of himself. "I know I look different, but it's me. It's your Gabriel."

Sylar left level five with his mother in his arms, nearly in tears. He entered level four with a fragile-looking, small girl in his arms. The girl had black hair and appeared to be an older teenager. Shilo? But his mother.. He would have taken more time to realize that it was only an illusion if flames hadn't burst from the ceiling at that moment. Without thinking, he dropped Shilo's legs and thrust his hand in front of them just in time to force the flames away from them. Well, Bennet would know now what he could do. The telekinesis came as naturally as it had so long ago, even if it was more limited in its strength. He attempted to balance a half-falling girl with one hand while the other still fought back the flames until they retreated back into the nothing from which they had come ( ... )

Kurt walked beside Stryker at an even pace, not daring to fall behind or get further ahead. Mystique's life was at stake, and as much as Kurt wished he could simply teleport both of them away, his powers were currently nullified.

And then something strange happened in the hallway: one second he was looking at Stryker and Mystique, and quite literally in the blink of an eye, it was Sylar and a young girl he did not recognize. The sudden fireball didn't leave time for much questioning and, oh joy of joys, the darts returned!

"If only I could teleport, this would be so easy..." Kurt muttered as he followed after Sylar, in between leaps and rolls to dodge the arrows. Then his mind caught up to a small detail. "When did you get telekinesis?"

Sylar dodged a spike by nearly falling to the ground, still clutching Shilo to his chest. Because she had first appeared as his mother, he somehow still felt protective of her and had some empathy for her even if he couldn't quite understand it. He rushed forward again, nearly out of level four at last. The few seconds he had spent there were plenty more than enough.

"Shortly after everyone lost theirs," he answered honestly. They were finally out of the traps it seemed. He was slightly irritated with the memory of Kurt's reactions to everyone losing their abilities, but right now it wasn't as important as to continue moving. "When you said that you didn't think anyone had abilities because no one had said they did."

Sylar left level four with an unpleasant expression painted on his face. He still carried the small girl who needed help, though now that he looked at her, her hair seemed to be slipping away. Glancing at the wig, he shifted it the inch it was out of place so that no one else would notice, keeping it in mind to inquire about later. Right now, he and Kurt made their way to the third floor. He had heard rumor of children running around and genders changing but, at the moment, he found himself unchanged. Looking down again, he noticed he was now carrying a boy instead of a girl, however, and he couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable. This Barge and whoever was controlling it really didn't want anyone to come out untraumatized, it seemed ( ... )

"Oh god, is that a dead body?" Elle had gone looking for her boyfriend, or at least somebody to talk to other than the little kids she was apparently sharing a room with, and had found something resembling total chaos outside. At least a few people from her high school were here, even if one of them was that total loser Charlie Prince.

What she had definitely not expected to find was some guy carrying some other guy who really didn't look so good, if he was even alive at all.

Kurt walked beside Gabriel, hoping his heart would stop racing from such an extreme workout. Whatever was on Level 3 couldn't be any worse than the death traps, he figured. Normal conversation seemed a welcome reprieve from that.

"It was an honest mistake," he said in reply and shrugged. "I hadn't meant--" Then he stopped, and simply stared. Why hadn't he noticed it before? Sylar was handsome! The perfect physique, chiseled in all the right places. Those bushy eyebrows so neatly trimmed. His lips, always in a frown! But when he smiled--it was like a gift from the heavens!

It took Kurt a moment to catch his breath.

"I... I... well... if I hurt you, I'm really, really sorry, Gabriel." Kurt licked his lips, trying not to imagine what a kiss from Gabriel might feel like. "Can you ever forgive me?"

"No. She--He's unconscious." Sylar replied almost instantly to the odd version of Elle before him. She wasn't a man or a child, but she definitely was not herself. He furrowed his eyebrows at her. Asking innocently rather than angry or accusing, "What's wrong with you?"

Then he glanced sideways at Kurt, who had stopped talking. He twisted his head in confusion again. Whatever was happening on the Barge right now was not something he enjoyed. Kurt was giving him a strange look, quite the opposite of the look Sylar had been receiving on level five.

"Yes," he answered shortly. It wasn't the answer he had meant to give, but it was the truth. It was fair enough. He narrowed his eyes at the bizarre Kurt before looking back at Elle. Even though he was still angry with her, now was not the time to deal with that. "Be careful. Don't go to levels four or five."

Sylar paused as he approached the man who now, much closer, looked vaguely familiar. He was younger and much cleaner looking than the warden who had been in his room a few days before. He didn't expect too much from this chat, he was just interested in learning more about his warden. It seemed only fair, given that Claude had already read his file. It was like The Company all over again. Sylar knew Kurt would deal with Adam and Peter and catch up in a moment, so he separated himself from the others as he came to the end of the hall without any concerns ( ... )

Claude may've been more trusting at this age, but he certainly wasn't naive. He wasn't about to go running his mouth off about his job-- not, at least, until he knew who this person was in detail. Glancing down at the child in Sylar's arms, then back at the man's face again, his smile didn't falter, it only became tighter.

"Right to the point, I like that." He shrugged, his tone conversational. "Who needs to waste time on formalities, pleasantries? Silly stuff, really." Then he cocked his head, looking at Gabriel curiously, although there was a slight edge to his voice as he asked his next question: "How do you know that name?"

Sylar spun around, choking a little bit as Adam approached him asking that question. Why that question, of all the questions to be asked. He supposed it was a fair inquiry, but he didn't expect it from Adam or right then. He forced the truth into a short answer, giving a curt, "I'm special. Wait until you see him on a different level; he's a nightmare. I hate him ( ... )

Kurt watched the tense conversation between Gabriel and Claude, not interrupting. He was certainly more curious about this Company (of course, whatever Sylar said must be true!) as both seemed to have dealings with it at some point ( ... )

Sylar was still frustrated when he went stomping down the stairs behind Kurt. Then, suddenly, it hit him. The transition from one floor to the other was much greater than just some stairs. He hadn't heard what Kurt said really, too distracted first with his anger and then with his joy. The teleportation of the other man confirmed what he had suspected however. It was so much better than Loki even began to describe. He could feel it inside of himself. The power. Suddenly he wanted to use it. He wanted to be strong, to know more, to be special. With all of his abilities came the hunger and, in this moment, he embraced it. First, get the girl to the infirmary. Then he could kill Kurt ( ... )

Kurt did not answer him at first. He was too busy having leaping from the walls and teleporting, doing flips in mid-air, and generally having fun. Flaunting his power wasn't his intent at all, nor was he aware he might be doing just that. It just felt good to have his teleportation back.

He appeared beside Gabriel in a dark cloud, landing almost in a crouch before straightening. "Nothing like a good workout, hm?" Then he paused, remembering his friend's request. "Ah, okay. Umm... oh! Do you have any of your abilities back?" It was an innocent question, really.

Sylar watched with mild annoyance, though he felt patience slowly seeping into his anger. It wasn't an excuse. Kurt would still die, he was just acknowledging that it could wait a little while. He had stopped until Kurt appeared beside him, then beginning to walk again.

"No," he replied slowly with a hint of hesitation. It was only to question whether or not he could lie. That he had time to consider the answer and then respond with a lie was evidence enough for him. Pausing, he realized that it was better to tell Kurt the truth for the moment. He looked forward and added, "Yes."

Then he continued in slow, even paces toward the infirmary. He wanted to revel in this moment before anything might happen. It didn't seem fair that it only worked here, that it would likely only last for a week at most as most of these floods seemed to. Noticing the girl beginning to shift slightly, he stopped again. Why now?
