[Parker groaned for a moment and then she closed her eyes and pressed her fingers to the bridge of her nose.]

What is the girl like?

Adventurous. And modern. But she comes from a very good, very moneyed family, so she's quite good at shopping.

Hmm.

[Parker pursed her lips for a moment before she moved over to the counter.]

Platinum, diamonds and emeralds. Simple settings. Bracelets and necklaces.

[Orders to the clerk, of course, given calmly and expectantly.]

Oh, and she has sort of strawberry blonde hair. Very light. It's nearly not red at all. And she has a very fair complexion.

[If any of that helps in jewelry selection.]

What color eyes does she have?

[Parker considered for a moment.]

Show us sapphires as well.

Blue.

[He didn't even have to think about that. Although Victorian garments are very high-necked, and there isn't really anyplace else a man could look.]

Good.

[Parker approved of being right. When the selection was shown, her eyes moved over each piece appreciatively before she lifted up a simple necklace with a sapphire on a pendant.

Right. George.]

Do you have any heirloom jewelry?

[George touches the pendant lightly with one finger, like he's afraid he might break it.]

Heirloom?

Older jewlery. It'll probably better suit her.

[And you, she thought, but she didn't say it. The clerk came out with some pieces, and Parker nodded.]

Better.

Ah. Yes, I suppose so. Although she does always dress in the latest fashions.

[Ruby is so 1898. George peers down at the jewelry.]

It's funny to see something like diamonds so close, and know that they're real and not glass. They're so similar to glass, but at the same time they're not really similar at all. I almost can't wrap my mind around the idea that a person might own one. Or many.

Well, the idea should be to buy a bunch and merit it out over a life time.

[Parker picked up a pretty cameo and showed it to him.]

More her speed?

[George coos at it.]

It's exquisite.

[And to the sales assistant:]

We'll take it.

We're not done yet, Sparky.

[Parker set the broach aside and then she picked up a necklace and grinned at it.]

This too, I think, and Georgie you should have an engagement ring on hand.

[George looks appropriately sweaty at the idea.]

Oh. Yes. That. Er. Right. En...gagement ring.

[Parker laughed at George then, because she couldn't not do it.]

Oh for fuck's sake. Something to keep in the back of your closet, not for asking her right away. Besides if you change your mind you can always hawk it.
