Since Ariadne was the one who got to witness his little collapse, she pretty much has been refusing to leave his side since getting him to the infirmary.

Okay, so eventually she left for about an hour to eat, but she's back now, because she doesn't want to leave him alone, even here. Just in case.

"Hey, feeling any better?"

"Because," she says, thinking through her words very carefully, "I'm pretty sure that when the drugs wear off, you'll regret having told me about wanting to have sex with Mal, and I'm trying to spare you."

"Heeeey, I'll have you know: I'm a man of--" He sweeps his arm out lavishly... or that's the intent, anyway. It's more of a limp flail. "--no regrets." His dopey grin softens, looking less goofy and more sincere. "You really do look out for other people." Like he's just noticing this.

She carefully grabs his hand before he flails out and knocks into something. "That's why I'm here." She means here on the Barge, looking out for Cobb and trying to get him back to his family. "I try to look out for the people I care about."

He slowly turns his hand over in hers. "You're a good person." Laughing softly. "I don't know what you're doing with the rest of us." 'Us' being the team, not the people of the Barge... not that Arthur's in any position to make distinctions right now.

She's pretty sure he means the team. "I knew what I was getting into. So either I'm not as good as all that, or maybe you're not as bad as you think you are. You've certainly always been nice enough to me." So they permanently screwed with a guy's subconscious, so what? It was for a good cause.

"Yeahhh, because I like you." He smiles serenely. "I like smart girls." A pause. He closes his eyes and makes a soft, thoughtful sound. "But 'm not a good person, you know. I'm kind of an asshole."

"Not from where I'm sitting," she says quietly. "You're dependable, and a loyal friend. You've always treated me with respect, even before I gave you a reason to." Well, being treated with respect is a pretty big plus as far as she's concerned. "Trust me, I know a few assholes, and you're not one of them."

He leans his head back and chuckles. "See? Good person... You're like a conscience. You're like..." He makes a sort of wavy motion with his hands... TO SIGNIFY HOPPING. "Jiminy Cricket."

She covered her mouth to stifle her laughter. "I have no intention of telling you what you should do, ever."

"I probably wouldn't listen, anyway." Want a finger gun pointed at you, Ariadne? Because that's what you've got right now. "Because Iiiii'm an outlaw."

And Ariadne is just going to grab that finger. "Don't point that at me. I know what you are, and I still like you, okay?"

He just grins and chirps out: "Hey, I like you, too!" Like it's a brand new epiphany and not something he's said like twelve times already since the morphine kicked in.

She laughs - with him, not at him! - and gives his hand a squeeze. "You are the worst when you're on drugs, you know that?"

"You-- youuu--" He squeezes her hand in emphasis. "--are just lucky you didn't see my pothead phase." Pause. WAIT. "I mean, I was never a pothead."

Yes, that's right.

Her eyebrows go up a little. But only in amusement. "Hey, just because I don't have a record..." What? She's been high once or twice!
