He'd followed Rowena's instructions exactly, and despite Jon's doubts, he'd finally turned a corner and seen the lake, and the castle, and his hopes were already skyrocketing before he'd even gotten off his horse. How he'd missed this place for so long, he didn't know, but he was here, finally, and really that was all that mattered. He urged the horse he'd stolen borrowed (with every intention of bringing it back) onwards,

The sky was getting darker, the moon slowly rising, just starting to illuminate the lake, and finally, he stopped the horse and hopped down, slowly approaching the lake's shore.

He'd been waiting for this moment for too long, and the idea that he might be wrong was both something he didn't want to acknowledge, and also hanging over his head like a weight about to drop. He couldn't be wrong this time.

He took another cautious step towards the lake, boots almost touching the water, wary of the sorcerer, but also blinded by the need to know.

"Summer?"

If he'd arrived a moment sooner, there would have been nothing to see in the lake, nothing but a swan swimming a little ways away from the shore. If he'd arrived a moment later, he would have found Summer, just Summer, which would have been quite a find, but not quite as dramatic a find as what Robin stumbled upon instead ( ... )

He'd seen plenty of magic before, but this... this was something else. As the swan began to change, all he could do was stare.

It was really her. She was alive.

For a moment, he couldn't do anything but watch and stare, wide eyed and open mouthed. It felt like he was in a dream, and even as he pulled himself out of the shock to answer her, it still felt surreal.

Probably had something to do with the fact that he'd just seen a swan turn into his long lost love.

He was definitely taller, not to mention older, and he wasn't exactly the same palace worker she'd known before she had been kidnapped - becoming a vigilante and quasi outlaw hadn't really been on the agenda back then - but he was still himself. And even though she was a little different too, he still knew it was her.

"Summer, it's me! Robin."

"Robin?" She blinked rapidly and ducked back behind the tree again, as though it would protect her. Robin, indeed. How had the sorcerer found out about her old friend and confidante, the boy she'd spent her childhood with? "This is a cruel trick, even for you," she hissed. "No disguise in all the world will break my will. I'll never give you my heart!"

Summer sulked for a moment, then peeked out from behind the tree once more, casting her gaze up and down and over Robin's form, her eyes finally settling on his. There was a warmth there that she had never seen in the sorcerer before, no matter how elaborately he disguised his true form. Could it be... Had her dreams finally come true, her wishes answered, her songs fulfilled? "It just can't be," she breathed.
