Sirius was wary and then some about this port, considering the fact that he had lost his entire identity on the last one. The Admiral had said here would be less civilisation, and to plan accordingly. His plan included a sturdy pair of dragon hide boots, the matching jacket, and his wand. He figured it was the Warden's job to come up with actual supplies.

He went to meet John at the designated meeting place. He could feign illness, but despite his last port experience, he really did want to see what was out there. Maybe it would be fun. And it was hard to pass up an opportunity to get off the Barge and stretch his legs.

It was John's first port, and he was very, very excited. Running around? The wilderness? Potential danger? Yes, yes, and yes please. He made sure to leave a note to Sherlock, sticking it to the forehead of his skull (not his skull, but the skull), hoping his flatmate wouldn't blow anything up while he was gone.

The note read:

Going to port with Sirius. Behave.

-JW

That army training of his started kicking in when he began to pack for the trip. Essentials neatly tucked into a rucksack that was slung over his shoulder, gun loaded and hidden under the waistband of his jeans, he headed off to find Sirius for docking. He knew that they'd wait on deck and then be transported down, but that was all he was told about the actual port.

Sirius was watching the stars pass by as he waited on the deck. When he saw John, he gave him a bit of a wave. "I didn't know what I was supposed to bring." Again, a wand counted for much and more in his opinion. "Do you have any idea where we're going?"

John jogged the rest of the way to his inmate, motioning to the rucksack on his back. "I came prepared, and you brought your wand, so that should be enough," he replied, though he had to shrug at the next question. He hadn't the foggiest. "I know as much as you do: there's going to be a lack of civilisation, we have to navigate our way back to the Barge."

John wasn't particularly worried. He was, however, hoping for something more woodsy than deserty. He was kind of done with the dry heat.

"Have you ever gone camping then?"

Day Two drdaytimetelly July 18 2011, 23:29:42 UTC
He was running low on ammunition. Normally a crack shot, the chaos had just been too much for John's aim - and the raptors too quick - and a lot of the bullets had ended up embedded in the trees or merely grazing them. The noise of the bullets and the minor injuries had only made them angrier and more determined too.

It was fortunate that they'd managed to stumble across the heavily plated, upside down truck when they did, though that was clearly the extent of their luck. Real luck would have been finding a real place to take shelter, or running into another group from the Barge, or not coming across the velociraptors in the first place.

They had crawled in and managed to roll up...or was it down...managed to close the windows before the dinosaurs could sneak their heads inside and take a bite. Sitting on the ceiling of the truck, John wiped the blood away from his eyes with a soft chuckle. God, his heart was pounding. They were probably going to die out here.

Dinosaurs. Sirius remembered not knowing what dinosaurs even were. Oh, how blissful ignorance really was! It seemed like a lifetime ago already, and it had only been a day ( ... )

The nasty little gash on his forehead had mostly stopped bleeding, though there was a cut on his leg that could use looking at and a few scrapes on his hands and knuckles from ducking behind trees and falling over his own feet. He was just trying to catch his breath now though, eyes occasionally glimpsing a flash of a quick-moving something beyond the doors and windows of the truck.

"You were...those spells were..." John shook his head, still attempting to calm his breathing. He started to laugh - maybe a little overwhelmed by the ridiculousness of it, maybe just a little in awe, or maybe both. "That was fantastic." Still chuckling, he gestured vaguely to the clever dinosaurs still plotting their demise outside the truck. "I mean, not that bit where we almost died, but the magic. That was brilliant. Did you see that one raptor run into a tree?"

Despite the egg-sized lump on his head, the blood congealing on the cut above it, and the various cuts, scrapes, and bruises, Sirius grinned. He pushed his stringy, wet hair out of his face and moved to sit in front of John, inspecting the wound on his forehead. "I hit it with a spell that affected the eyes and vision. I'm just glad I hit the blighter. I thought Death Eaters on brooms were fast." He used Episkey to heal the wound on John's forehead. A raptor peered into the window, glanced from one to the other of them, and skittered away. "These bloody things...it's like they're plotting." He wiped his sleeve over his brow. His breathing was still quick, his heart pounding a mile a minute. But he had never felt so focused. "Do you have any other wounds in need of healing?"
