Mal's got a bandage on her hand from where she burned the crap out of herself over the weekend while everything was going on, and she looks like her sleep has definitely been troubled, but she's doing her best sort of chin-up, carry-on routine, due to an obscure feeling of obligation to provide normalcy for those who are up for getting breakfast.

Out for a walk, stretching her legs a bit.

Lunch time. She tends to eat alone, but she won't turn down company, for the most part.

One of her preferred ways to pass the time, of course. She's combing through a shelf of modernist fiction.

Did someone say modernist? Have someone delving into post modernist literature. For example, instead of the modernist quest for meaning in a chaotic world, the postmodern author eschews, often playfully, the possibility of meaning, and the postmodern novel is often a parody of this quest. Specifically in relation to the application of pop-culture symbols used to illustrate the exploration of a sense of self as opposed to realism-wherein someone notices solid aspects of themselves. (A trait it shares with modernist fiction.)

Kevin Flynn knows absolutely none of that.

Instead, he has a stack of comic books. Plays within this group are absurd in that they focus not on logical acts, realistic occurrences, or traditional character development; they, instead, focus on human beings trapped in an incomprehensible world subject to any occurrence, no matter how illogical.

What's more illogical then a man who can turn into a spider? Or for that matter 7 aspects of anthropomorphic intangible thought?

It's those that Kevin is reading. ( ... )

Mal takes a step backward, tilting her head up to look at something on a higher shelf. Unfortunately this action puts her right in Kevin Flynn's path-and she's in one of those states of mind where she doesn't really hear much going on around her, so she doesn't notice him at all. Not until it's too late, anyway.
