Who: Steff Braun and OPEN What: Looking for work, possibly picking pockets, hopefully being discovered! When: All port! Where: OS19 Warnings: Sci-fi style swearing 8)
"Aaaack! No! Stop doing that!" Here was a red-clad newcomer flailing and shouting at her portable videobook reader in a panic. The reader was merrily playing along at top volume, and from the theatrical noises there was clearly a very adult scene going on in the current book. This was causing several chuckles from bystanders as the girl blushed a red that almost matched her coat.
All it took was the press of a few buttons on Steff's own wireless device to pause the girl's book. She even set it to make a face appear on the screen, a great big :[ before the girl stepped out of the shadows to grab the stranger by the arm.
"You shake it like that you're only going to make it worse. Where're you from, the boonies? Never used a portable before? Probably the only reason you haven't been mugged yet is because you're providing entertainment," she lectured the girl with a scowl, dragging her into the alley where her drug-selling friend gave her an annoyed look, but rolled his eyes and went about his business. Once they were done he could offer her all the drugs he liked.
"Frag, what are you, seven? First day in the big city? Give me that thing."
Wanda squawked at being grabbed after getting worked up. For a moment her fingers sparkled slightly. But she kept her hands still, didn't gesture with them, and the sparks disappeared after a moment.
She took the lecture with several blinks at the blonde local, wondering why she looked vaguely familiar. The prospect of being mugged had barely occurred to her because she trusted her powers--likely overmuch--to protect her. But she still blushed, too off balance from accidentally porning the locals to get defensive.
"F-first time in the big Station," she admitted quietly. She hesitated, then offered the reader, frowning thoughtfully. Have I seen her before?
"Sheiss," she muttered, taking the reader and popping the back off with practiced hands. "First time in the big Station, she says."
A tiny metal tool appeared from seemingly nowhere, her hands moved so fast. It didn't take long for her to bypass the important pieces, pop the back right back on, and reprogram the reader so that the volume control was presented on screen.
"Look, this isn't the kind of tech you just walk around with. For starters you're making too much noise. Dumm alien. Haven't you got a chip or something? I haven't seen anyone use the speaker function on one of these things since they came out."
