It was the limp he noticed first. He'd been trained to notice the smallest of differences, to watch people and know when something was off. It was second nature for Cooper. Most people - especially the kids he'd somehow ended up in regular contact with here - were easy reads. The average person wasn't trained to hide what that they were feeling, or to keep what they thought off their face. Heero wasn't really average, though, so the limp caught his attention all the more. He headed for the intercept, falling into step besides the boy, face neutral.

"What happened to your leg?"

He barely reacted to Cooper's presence, glancing up and acknowledging him silently before continuing to walk down the hallway as if nothing had happened.

"It's broken."

Completely flatly, like walking on a broken leg without a cast or crutches the day after it had happened was totally normal and nothing out of the ordinary. There was no point in lying about it, since Cooper would probably be able to put it together quickly enough by himself.

Cooper sounded like a man at least ten years older than he was, and Cooper had to glance down at him, just to make sure there wasn't some undercurrent of humor. He didn't expect to find anything, and wasn't surprised when he didn't. "You set it." It wasn't really a question; there was no way the infirmary would release him if he'd gone there.

"Yeah." Confirming what he already knew, in all likelihood, since the doctors on the ship were unfortunately pretty vigilant about who got released and when, and if he'd been let out, it would have probably been on crutches with a cast. And with a distinct lack of windows to parachute out of, escape was limited to the door, and he really didn't feel like dealing with someone treating his injuries when he could do it himself. Again, it wasn't like he hadn't done it before.
