Eddie was aware that what he had done was underhanded, and felt a little guilty about it, vaguely aware that it was a sneaky Prefect's trick, but also thinking that his intent was genuine and real enough, and that was what really counted. He hadn't said it to get Victor to do as he told him, but to show Victor there were consequences to his actions.

He'd just made the consequences he wanted to use comply with the system he'd already set forth. To be honest, it was all a bit of seeing what worked and what didn't, but as soon as he'd done it, he anticipated Jane not being too happy.

But, he felt he could justify himself, and unlike any Prefect, he was prepared to do so, to her, just because she didn't like the idea of it. So he answered his door, a little stiffly, and nodded for her to come inside.

Jane stepped inside, her head held high. Once, he had pointed out to her that, here, she was the acting Green Prefect. And she was going to act like it. She could pull rank, too. It just took a lot of willpower.

"That was mean." Obviously. "And completely unnecessary." Untrue, but she was too prideful to admit it. "It was a very dirty trick you pulled."

He shut the door, not wanting to argue anything out in full view, and kept his voice even and calm, more out of habit than deliberate intent, "It was a dirty trick, I'll admit. But I don't think it was completely unnecessary. I think my intent in doing it was right, and I wasn't harming him. There were consequences to what he'd done, to the fact he'd hurt - and was continuing to hurt - people by his words."

Once the door was shut, she folded her arms across her chest, just staring at him in disbelief. "There is a difference in using the power you have to make something right, and using it for tricks. I don't know your inmate. I don't care right now. But I do care about how this is going to get worse." She stepped forward, towards him. "And it will get worse if you continue to think that this is right."
