Armand pulled up short in the doorway to watch the man he’d been trying to find. Why did it have to be here? It made sense, but he’d put off looking here until nearly the last, save accidentally running into Jack in the dining room or hallway. But since talking to Bruce, Armand knew he wouldn’t be able to rest until he’d spoken to him. Of course, he wouldn’t be remembered, but that didn’t stop Armand worrying. He didn’t like that this was what he might have realized was the case ( ... )

It was in the middle of listening to a stunning looking woman talk about the Barge and the Warden's jobs that he'd heard him. His eyes turning back, blue and somewhat harder; reflecting both uncertainty and a slight surprise. It was only for a second though before that casual grin lit up his face again, the man a master of masquerade, looking Armand up and down and nodding his head his way ( ... )

Armand closed his eyes and grit his teeth a moment before he was able to answer. He didn't want to show this man his pain at hearing such casual indifference, but he knew that it wouldn't be fair to show his anger. And it wasn't quite anger anyway, just a gut-deep sense of how unfair it was. A final deep breath, and he made himself shake his head. "Oh, my name is Armand St. Just. I'm another warden here."

He was worried he was failing to sound as casual as he liked. The frown he wouldn't allow stayed around his eyes and brow as he glanced back down at his wine glass. "Someone mentioned on the weekly report a week or so ago that you'd come back. I thought I'd see for myself."

The pain that seemed to go across the man's face didn't go unnoticed by Jack, ever the observant one. Jack, who was so afraid of his own darkness, Jack who could find a man's weak spot and exploit it with grins and year old champagne with an ease that seemed far too natural to be altogether comforting. He took in the other for a slight moment, that grin seeming a little less easy, his gaze seeming to study the man a little more.

"...I'd come...back." The man repeated the phrase back to Armand in a steady tone, leaning back slightly against his chair with an ease yet an uncertain grin crossing his face. "Sorry but, well, as unforgettable as I really am I and trust me I don't say that lightly...think you must have me mistaken for someone else. Because...you see, I've only just recently arrived here Armond St. Just."
