Donny's death thread actuallyagolem February 25 2011, 01:57:24 UTC
Despite having been intimidated by the landscape himself, and more than a little worried about who or what they were going to run into, Donny kept it cool. Walking through Nazi-occupied France hadn't been a cakewalk, neither had fighting up through Italy for that matter, but keeping cool was the key to any bad situation. The Basterds never would have worked if they spent every second panicking - Donny was actually hoping they'd all channel that same sense of camaraderie in order to get to the shining lights of the city.

He insisted on walking ahead of the group. Scouting had been one of his jobs as second-in-command of the Basterds, and he thought that it he could probably run fast enough and shout loud enough to alert the other three if he spotted anything dangerous up along the path. Path being a loose term, of course.

Clapet wasn't too far behind him, and occasionally Donny glanced over his shoulder and gave his inmate a reassuring wave. See? Nothing to fear out here. They'd be just fine.

Clapet was following on behind Donny, keeping an eye on both him up ahead, and the two women behind. To be fair, he was keeping a much closer eye on the latter - he trusted Donny to look after himself, and was far more worried about something sneaking up behind them than anything else. Mainly, he was worried about other people. The sort of people who caught you on the road and dragged you off for money, food, whatever else they could.

Troglos, maybe. He felt a little reassured to be armed, and kept glancing nervously behind him as he trekked on. He didn't want to leave them vulnerable, whereas Donny, he didn't see as a problem.

There area in front of him was just a little too clear, just a little too quiet, so Donny held up his hand for everyone behind him to stop walking. He was just going to check it out first, just to make sure they weren't walking into some kind of trap or zone-of-death. Not that Donny even knew what was out there waiting for them yet, but the whole thing reminded him of the zombie port and that was all the reassurance he really needed to keep playing it safe.

Gun drawn, though held with the barrel facing the ground, Donny crouched down and then ducked out of sight, beginning to once more inspect the perimeters. He didn't worry about the others - they knew what he was doing when he disappeared, and he was pretty confident that he could return.

Clapet caught Donny's gesture, and stopped, prepared to stop the others when they caught up with him, and watched into the distance as Donny disappeared a little. He was mainly keeping an eye out to see how long it was before he came back in sight, or, worse, if he came back in sight at all. He pulled his own gun out from his belt and gripped it a little nervously. Guns weren't his favourite weapon.

It was day two and the city didn't look like it was getting any nearer. They'd heard shots in the night, and Martha had frowned; it was too close, much to close feeling for her. Taking a deep breath, she looked around and longingly thought of food. She was hungry, starving really. The sensation of hunger was like a gnawing on her stomach, and longingly she thought of the dining hall and the warm food it offered. Martha Jones wasn't the sort of woman who ate a lot, and she'd gone hungry more than once... but not in a long time and she'd gotten rather complacent with her meal-skipping ( ... )

Clapet sighed, and had a drink of his own water, and looking around them curiously, feeling the familiar hunger eating at the pit of his stomach. He could tolerate it, for now, but it was getting tired, "I don't even know."

He saw someone moving in the distance, and checked the ammunition in the gun, before stepping carefully into the space in front of him, pointing it ahead, "Who's there?" He waited for someone to respond, and as soon as a guy emerged from the bushes, he jumped, and pulled the trigger, shooting the man in the face, immediately dead, before he had any chance to say a word.

Sveta didn't mind the hunger. It hurt and it occupied her thoughts fully, but it kept her from feeling the grief. She had been almost silent the entire time, drinking what she needed, but not protesting anything.

At Martha's question, Sveta turned and looked over to her, folding her arms across her chest. Consequently, she didn't notice it when someone came from the bushes. She did, however, notice the question and gunshot and jumped in the air before turning.

"Clapet," she whispered and looked around, expecting there to be more who suddenly appeared.

Martha released a breath when he said that he hadn't he didn't even know. Bloody hell, what she'd give for a good pair of field glasses or something other than a vague set of lights in the distance. When Sveta looked at her with the crossed arms, Martha just shrugged a bit; someone had to say it, she thought.

But then there was Clapet asking if someone was there. Oh hell, this wasn't good. They'd heard people, of course, and they'd avoided grocery stores, but she had hoped to avoid them. Her immediate thought was another giant bug like the one who'd gotten Donny, and Martha quickly moved into a defensive stance.

The sound of the gunshot made her startle, and Martha stared at the man and the blood and the way it spread around the ground. Her heart was thrumming, and instantly she looked around for more people.
