Early Morning, the Dining Hall naughtbutlife February 11 2011, 19:07:11 UTC
Her internal clock made her rise early - before sunrise, if such a thing existed on the Barge, but she sat for a while in the dining hall in order to finish her cup of coffee. She was trying desperately to will away a foul mood.

Later in the Morning, the Laundry Room naughtbutlife February 11 2011, 19:08:14 UTC
Time to do the washing. Unlike her husband, Angelica had no problem with the machines in the laundry room. They cleaned her clothes and linens better than she ever could by hand, and it sure beat scrubbing the muck and grime from Sexby's doublets all day.

Elphaba had learned how to use the washing machines by watching others use them. For the most part, she found it far easier than trying to figure out how to clean her clothes by hand without physically touching the water, but now she'd reached the difficult part. Transferring from the washer to the dryer. Wearing latex gloves she'd gotten from the infirmary, Elphaba moved her clothing from one to the other, one item at a time.

It was an odd little spectacle, but Angelica carried on with folding the indistinguishable linen undershirts both she and her husband wore without paying too much attention to what the woman seemed to be doing. It would have been rude of her.

The machine that had been drying their stockings beeped, though Angelica hesitated for a moment before moving towards it. She didn't want to get in the woman's way - not when she seemed so focused.

"I'm going to take a while," she pointed out, but continued on her task, not bothering to get out of Angelica's way. "If you want it to go faster, you'll have to help me. Otherwise, you can wait. I can't touch the water."

The Afternoon, the Library naughtbutlife February 11 2011, 19:08:52 UTC
Angelica desperately needed a distraction, and decided that prowling through the stacks ought to do the trick. She wanted to look at something beautiful and uplifting, so she hauled a bunch of massive art history books to the nearest table and began to flip through them.

Sveta was trying to carry on as normal, but it was extraordinarily difficult to do, considering the circumstances. As much as she wanted to, she couldn't just hide out in the infirmary the whole time, pretending not to worry about Neil.

Perry had been a decent distraction, but she needed some peace and quiet. Slipping inside the library, she wandered the aisles, trying to keep her emotions in check. Hearing someone else, Sveta turned and spotted Angelica there, sitting at a table. For a moment, she hesitated, but that moment didn't last long and she made her way over, sitting down across from her.

"Hello, Angelica. Do you mind? Can I join you?"

She was studying some lovely French fashion plates, face so close that her nose was nearly pressing against the pages, when Sveta joined her at the table. "Nay, Sveta, tis good to see you," she said, trying to form a smile on her face that wasn't sad. It actually really quite difficult, but eventually she managed. It was good to see her friend, although she suspected that she was just as completely torn up inside as she was, if not more so.

"Look you here." Angelica pushed the book towards Sveta, pointing to an illustration on one of the pages. "I very much wanted a gown like that...back when they were fashionable, of course."

Sveta made herself comfortable in the chair and leaned forward to try and see what Angelica was looking at. When she pointed to the illustration, the doctor just tilted her head to the side and then back to Angelica, trying to imagine her in such garments.

"I think you would have looked good in it," she ventured, looking once more to the picture.

"I don't see how you could have survived wearing gowns like that, Angelica." It was her attempt at keeping the conversation light.

Lunchtime, the Dining Hall naughtbutlife February 11 2011, 19:09:50 UTC
Not terribly hungry, Angelica prodded at her plate. For some reason she thought it was a brilliant idea to try eating her meal with just a knife, just like her one-handed husband.

It wasn't going very well so far.

Iroh was just passing with his own lunch in hand when he noticed this unusual display. It was hard to ignore, after all. He cracked a small smile despite himself.

"I could teach you to use chopsticks, if you need to eat with one hand."

He had, of course, discovered forks by this point - and they were useful for certain kinds of food but overall he wasn't particularly taken with them.

Sad to say, but Angelica had become dependant on that rather posh invention known as the fork. She narrowly avoiding cutting her lip and stabbing her own fingers - twice, but for some reason she was determined to keep trying.

Until Iroh spotted her and decided to say hello.

She chuckled and set down the knife, cheeks and ears turning red from embarrassment. "I was seeing what was so appealing about eating with just a knife," she explained, realising as soon as she opened her mouth how dumb it sounded. "But I would very much like to learn, if you would care to teach me."

"I would love to." And there was no time like the present, clearly, since she was obviously disinterested in getting much food into her mouth just then. "One moment."

Going back to the kitchen for a second pair of chopsticks was the work of about fifteen seconds - hopefully long enough for her blush to die down, he hadn't meant to embarrass her - and he offered them to her on one hand.

Hell. The carpet was on fire. She probably should have paid a bit more attention to that candle....

Olivia had taken to just walking about the barge trying to take it all in, but this was the first time she'd smelt burning...well, away from the kitchen anyway. Following her nose Olivia hustled down the corridor, turning a corner to see a small a amount of smoke coming from under a door.

She walked forward, tapping on the door quickly and firmly.

"Hello, are you okay in there?" she said, an element of fear in her voice.

For a long moment Angelica had just stood and watched the small fire eat away at the carpeting, rather dumbstruck by the whole thing. What a stupid thing to do, burning a candle so close to the edge of the table! She glanced around and looked for something to smother the flames, then heard the knock on the door.

"The door is unlocked, madam!" She assumed that the person on the other side of the door was a woman - it had sounded feminine enough. Angelica was eyeing the heavy drapes that covered the windows, hurrying towards them and trying to tug them down. "Please, if you would, I need some help!"

Hearing the voice, Olivia pushed at the door, and it fell open easily. The room however was building up with smoke. Quickly covering her mouth she moved forward, making out the shape of the other woman. From what she could see, the woman was trying to pull down the velvet looking curtains which hung at the window.

For all of the smoke the fire itself was relatively small, but growing quickly as it ate through the soft carpet. Olivia stepped past it with some haste and tugged at the curtains hard, hoping they'd fall quickly.
