Dress shirts and various boxer-like undergarments need washing. So he's in the laundry room watching the machine boredly, mulling over what weapon needs recharging and what he should do to replace the pictures whose frames broke. He needs those positions filled.

He barked a strange laugh at that observation. "Yeah, it's true. The Time Lords are kind of like that. They try to act like they've not evolved from anything lesser, because they've erased a bunch of their history. But you can tell some of the instincts are still there. I suppose there are some birds that exhibit similar characteristics but there are too many mammalian characteristics. They don't seem to get how destructive they can really be."

He glanced over to her, raising an eyebrow. "I'm left mostly speculating, but I'm curious." He shrugged.

"I guess it depends on which Time Lord. The Doctor - the, ah, one in the library - seems pretty tame."

Might as well carry on with the analogies.

"They all do, matter of fact. The Doctors, I mean. Sure, there's the one calling himself the Master, but...well. I don't know the others. It's interesting, though. Most humans have trouble communicating through physical expression, and you're telling me this incredibly advanced species displays primitive behavior."

She shrugged. "That's a lot of primal social complexity for a cerebral, highly evolved race."

"They've all got their violent tendencies. Their neural pathways are prone to weakness. Possessions. Psychic influence." But that was the case for most temporal or psychically aware races. He started on the second pile of boxers.

"When they start to degrade, they lash out violently. The Master that was here before was completely unstable, and had resorted to hunting and eating humans. He cracked open a man's skull on his first day here. Rassilon, he was their president at the end. He wanted to destroy the rest of the universe in favor of protecting his own planet from it. Had some mad delusions about ascension to a higher form of conciousness which I suspect they were nowhere near evolved enough for."

And Narvin not even recalling punching him in the face. But that wasn't something that was public knowledge. Nor would it ever be, likely.

"Rassilon's the one that just came aboard." It's not quite a question - more of an observation, just so she can remember it later. "Does it seem like there are a lot of them? Compared to the rest of us?"

She pursed her lips. "What I mean is this. There's no one I know here. You know J, but I'm going to guess you weren't expecting him to show up. But the Time Lords - there are four or five Doctors, the Master, Rassilon, and then Martha Jones seems to know them. There are probably others I don't know about. I'm a little relieved most of them are wardens, because if they got it into their heads to take over, we wouldn't stand a chance."

She doesn't sound pessimistic. It simply a fact, for her. She's seen Five's TARDIS.

"The Master has taken over before." He concentrated again on the folding. Well... he supposed he could give her a little reassurance. Just a bit. Without being too explicit. After all, the ship seemed to nueralyze people when they left. Not that he suspected she was afraid, but sometimes it helped to know that someone was prepared for what might happen. Many cases of what might happen.

"This may sound unusual, but I know for an absolute fact that people like Rassilon and the Master are a dime a dozen. And I do like being the underestimated human." That was probably one of the stranger things a man folding his underwear could say.

She eyed him inquisitively for a moment at that comment, but decided not to push it with more questions. He wouldn't be forthcoming unless he wanted to be, obviously. She wondered if it was a hazard of the job or just a personality trait. Jay's reticence might have been due to the fact that he'd only just arrived and knew no one aboard.

Instead, she asked, "What happened when he took over? I didn't think it was possible to do that."
