Paddy was still awake, and just playing on his x-box, trying to relax a little after the dinner shift - and had totally missed the time, especially once he'd cracked open the odd beer. He hadn't expected anyone to come knocking on his door, especially not at this time. At first, he thought it might be Laura, so tossed his controller to the floor quickly, then was a little surprised to hear Uhura's voice.
He pulled open the door, a bottle of beer still in hand and looked at her, a little confused, "What... what's wrong?"
Paddy grimaced, "Well, I reckon he's an idiot." He shrugged and had a long drink of his beer, "But... you're alright to be upset... it fucking sucks, Uhura."
She moved over, closer to him, the bag of chocolate in her lap and the bottle in one hand. "He's...not an idiot. At least I don't think so. He's just confused, I guess." She didn't know why she was defending him. She was supposed to be upset, but...she wasn't. She was too tired.
So she just leaned against him, taking a long drink.
He let her lean against him, not really caring one way or another, "Eh, he's an idiot to give you up, that's what I'm sayin'." He took a drink of his beer and looked down at her, "Don't even defend him or owt. You're allowed to be irrational about this shit, y'know."
"I know. I'm just...not used to it." She settled on not saying anything else about it for the moment.
"I want to go home," she said in a rather small voice after that. "I don't...know how I'm going to face him. I told him that we were friends. But what does that matter?"
Paddy shook his head, "You ain't gonna let a stupid man scare you off, are you? C'mon, Uhura, you're a bigger girl than that and you know it. As for facing him, who said you had to?"
"I'm not scared," she told him firmly. "I just hate that I let myself get like this. I'm not like this. You know that." She took a long drink, still holding the chocolates in her lap.
"I know you're not, love. But neither the fuck am I. Doesn't mean I don't get irrational about shit, and upset when things like that go wrong. Just cause we're fucking tough doesn't mean we ain't human."
He shrugged, "We've just gotta be better at hiding it or something."
Uhura just looked away for a moment, digging through the chocolates. "Thanks, Paddy. Look, I...know it's probably a bad idea, but can I just stay with you tonight? I'll just sleep here, I promise. I want to be stupid and weak and childish for a while."
He winced. That... could turn into a terrible idea, but he didn't want to turn her down either. He felt bad for her, "Alright, sure. If there's a problem with it later, I'll deal with it."
He just hoped that she wouldn't find out, mainly. "It'll... I'll be able to fix it if all goes tits up, no worries."
Not really wanting to put him in this position, but wanting to be with a friend, she nodded. She always put other people before herself. She wanted to be selfish for at least a night.
He pulled open the door, a bottle of beer still in hand and looked at her, a little confused, "What... what's wrong?"

And hopefully Parker wouldn't kill her.

"The way you 'fixed it' last time?"

At least, he hoped not. He looked back at the ceiling, "I can explain this one. Nothin' to worry about."
He was more telling himself than anything else.
