Hayley was wearing a fitting, short-sleeve sweater, her red jacket, a puffed out white parka, and Sam's over-sized hunting jacket was squished over it. The parka extended down to her knees, where she wore jeans and thick boots lined with fur on the inside. She was also wearing a ridiculous cap that had tassles hanging down on the side, the parka hood. Plus a scarf. And she was still freezing
( ... )
Capa gave her a sympathetic face and waited as she put the key in her pocket. He had the credit card in his other hand and gripped it tightly, his fingers shaking inside of his gloves. Hopefully once they started moving it would be better. "Come on. Let's find out where we're going to stay and then we can get some money." If they were going to be at a marketplace, then they might as well try and get in the spirit of things and buy something. Capa really didn't know what he wanted or where he was going to get it, but it seemed that half the fun was just wandering around, looking at everything he could.
Pulling his hood up more over his face, the fur around the lining tickling his ears, he started forward, making sure that she was coming along with him.
"I'm glad to see that you escaped the Admiral's sweaters." Which reminded him. Out of his other pocket he pulled out a piece of the gingerbread house from a bag and handed it to her. Adric didn't fall over and die, so Capa figured it was safe enough to eat.
Hayley followed him without much need for provocation, feeling entirely out of place and uncomfortable here and naturally clinging, metaphorically, to the only thing or person here that she actually knew and was familiar with. The girl stayed close to him without actually invading his personal space, most of the time staying a half-step behind him to unconsciously use him as a shield for whatever might come.
"Okay," she agreed unenthusiastically. The inmate wasn't so fond of the idea of wandering around in the cold to look for gifts, but she did appreciate the beauty of their surroundings and wouldn't mind taking a stroll to look at the architecture and lights. At the remark about the sweaters, she laughed a little. "They're kind of cute, in a festive way."
At the sight of the gingerbread, she stared, then looked up to Capa. "What is it?"
Cute? Well, if anyone was going to think the tacky Christmas sweaters were cute, it would be Hayley. He gave her a smile and then broke a piece of the gingerbread off and tasted it. He had been munching on it for a while now, hence why there was only that single piece left in his pocket.
"It's gingerbread," he told her. "Off of a gingerbread house we got. Don't worry. I've been eating on it all morning and it's not harmful. A little stale but...useful. It will tide you over until lunch."
He pushed down his hood after a while, looking up to the bright sun in the sky. He always liked looking at it during ports or in the CES. It was a beautiful sight. One that he never really got to see. Not that he could remember, that is. The sun had always been dim.
