Uhura opened the door at the knocking, blinking at who was on the other end of it. She was just getting ready for bed, her hair still wet from a shower. However, all of that was forgotten when she saw it was Paddy. Stepping back, she allowed him inside.
"What's wrong?" As it wasn't really usual for him to just show up for no reason.
"I just... oh, Uhura, this damn fucking..." He trailed off and ran a hand through his hair, pacing across her room a little and not really knowing what to say at all. There wasn't much he could, or should, tell her. He wasn't that sort of guy, and he knew how much it hurt to have it done to him. But this... this was still eating a horrible, horrible hole in his stomach, because he kept thinking about what if that was his daughter, his little girl, and then Laura...
He was suddenly very exhausted by the very thought of it, sat down on a nearby surface, possibly a table, he didn't really care, and gasped out almost desperately, "She's just a little girl, Uhura. Just a little girl."
Then he buried his head in his hands. Not more else needed saying.
It didn't take long for her to realize that he was talking about Laura, considering the flood, and she shut the door, letting him get it out before she reacted. There wasn't much she could say or do and, while that did make her feel more than a little helpless, she knew that it was sometimes better to just...listen.
When he sat down, she did walk over, putting her hands on his shoulders sympathetically.
"You know I can't tell... I can't say much. But... no kid deserves any of that shit. No fucking kid, dammit."
He didn't move his head from his hands and swallowed hard, trying to keep back his emotions, "And I keep telling her it's alright, keep telling her the shit she needs to hear, and she's not even gonna remember it and she'll go back to... oh, fucking hell, Uhura."
At that point, he ran his hands down the back of his neck and burst into tears. He didn't cry often, and certainly not without reason, but if there was anyone he was going to do it in front of, it was Uhura. She'd seen him far, far weaker than this.
