Hayley ran her hands over the cabinets and shelves, all consumed with protection from the dangerous hands of the inmates, from her. It saddened her for some reasons she couldn't quite understand that the supplies were all stowed away from her, as if she would paint in a situation like this. Then again, perhaps she would. Certainly it would be more cathartic than doing nothing at all ( ... )

The girl felt another rush of adrenaline as Franklin left her and, for the first time, felt some sense of hope that she might not die here. That hope was dashed almost as quickly as it came when she saw how fast he was on Capa. Hayley's breath increased as she tried to will her body to move. Her legs fought at the ground, but both wrists felt like lead weights and one now gushed blood. She was lightheaded as she sat up and tears were in her eyes without her even realizing that fact.

"Capa!" She shouted, trying in desperation to do something from her place on the ground. The situation seemed it couldn't get any worse. And then it did.

Franklin let the man struggle. He even loosened his grip a little to give the illusion he might just let go. But then he laughed and said, quite calmly, "Not gonna happen." With a quick movement of his hand, the back of Capa's head slammed into the wall behind him. Enough to knock him out cold. As much as Franklin wanted to kill him, if for nothing else than he'd interrupted his meal, he was too impatient to get back to Hayley. Her blood was being wasted on the floor.

With Capa disposed of, Franklin turned his attention back to Hayley. He walked leisurely back to her form, and crouching over her as he had before.

"Franklin. Since you're so curious." He leaned down and kissed her. A quick peck on the lips; a bloody mockery of intimacy. "Any last words?"

"No!" She shouted as Capa's head was slammed. Hayley watched in horror as her warden's body slumped to the ground, not certain whether he was dead or simply unconscious. Either way, her last hope was stolen away and Franklin was back on top of her before she could even think to run. His words finally caught her attention and she looked up at him just in time for the kiss.

Hayley thought about spitting at him, but it just seemed too cliche. The blood loss was beginning to get to her as well, or maybe the shock or cortisol. When he asked if she had any last words, the girl closed her eyes and then reopened them slowly. "Is he dead?"

Franklin didn't even glance back at the young man's crumpled form. "No. He's not dead." The vampire was calmer than before, his words a purr. "I can hear his heartbeat. Strong, panicked. Unlike yours." He shrugged. "It doesn't matter. You'll be alive again before you know it." With one hand cradling her head, he bent his own toward her neck, ready to finish what he'd started. If she spoke again, she might get his attention before he began to drink.

She breathed a small sigh of relief. Lifting her broken but not yet bleeding wrist to her chest, she cradled it there and tried to put an elbow between she and the vampire. The girl knew it was stupid, but she just wanted a minute more. With more force of will and strength to her tone, Hayley spoke again. "Promise me something. Promise me you won't hurt him anymore, or kill him, and I won't fight this. I won't tell them your name. Leave him alone and I'll leave you alone."

was heading to bed but this post was too epic to ignore <3 vfranklinmott November 21 2010, 09:03:44 UTC
He ignored the hand at her chest, so focused was he on the blood. So near, so wonderful... But then she spoke of promises, and that made him pause. He glanced back at her with a curious, almost confused, gaze. In her condition, she couldn't fight him, so that bargaining chip was moot. Mentioning his name, however, was a tad more serious. Something that he took notice of, despite his hunger.

Truthfully, Franklin hadn't intended to harm the warden any further. Franklin had had the fleeting idea to set him up next to Hayley, blood on his hands. Frame him somehow. That too was also useless, as the dead never stayed dead on the barge.

"A long term promise. I don't hurt him, and you provide blood."

Hayley flinched as he neared her, then felt some small relief when he lifted his head a hint to look at her again. Pain still throbbed in nearly every part of her body now and she wasn't certain she could handle this again, even if he chose not to break her wrists next time.

"No," she argued, before even truly considering his proposal. The idea of dealing with him again, especially after he had kissed her and licked her? It was disgusting. The girl didn't want that.. But she also didn't want Capa getting hurt. She cringed slightly. "Don't hurt him anymore for this and I'll give you blood once more, willingly, within the next two weeks."

Franklin clicked his tongue disapprovingly. She was being foolish, overestimating her one bargaining chip, or both. With two fingers pressed to the wound at her neck to slow the bloodflow, he spoke condescendingly, his impatience obvious.

"You ask me not to hurt your pet, not knowing how long either of us will be here. Yet you only offer blood once. Your blood buys his safety. For as long as its needed. That's the deal." He bent his down to the wound at her neck and sucked a little blood, just to punctuate the fact her time alive was ending very soon. "Decide quickly."

"One feeding for one day of safety. That's what I'm offering. If you kill him tomorrow, because I'm only trading one day? I'll kill you.. and trust me, I can do it." There was a dangerous edge to her tone that suggested she wasn't lying. Hayley was a little girl, but she had many friends, multiple weapons, and more than one person she could call in a favor from if it was for her warden. He was underestimating her.

Hayley groaned with a fresh wave of pain, grimacing at the feeling of his lips on her neck again. "So we can either make the deal and talk about this again when you're not about to kill me, maybe, or you can just do whatever you want and know that everyone on this ship will know your name and what you are by week's end if you kill him."

She hated even negotiating with him, but Capa's willingness to risk his life for her meant something to her. Trying to protect him was necessary.

Neither had backed down from their terms. Her stubbornness was almost admirable, were he not so intent on killing her. Before she had only threatened with telling Capa about him; now it was the whole Barge. While his vampirism seemed to be obvious to most anyone he met, there was likely many who didn't know. He recalculated her offer and quickly decided that, for now, it was the best option.

"Fine. I accept your terms. I'd shake on it, but somehow I doubt you'd want to." His voice dropped to an amused whisper. "So let's instead seal the deal with blood..." Then he was back at her neck, drinking. Slowly at first as he savored the taste. Time enough for her to speak again, if she chose. Soon greed took over and he drank more quickly.

His agreement made Hayley feel a sense of relief, though anger flared within her again as he joked about her injuries. At least the pain was distant now, every sense in her body shutting down to prevent her from being overcome with it. The girl let her eyes drift closed, already feeling fatigued and resigned to her fate. She felt him at her neck again, like a wild beast, and forced her thoughts away from him. All that mattered was moving on now.
