WHO: Seamus Z Harper, Jonathan Crane, Hayley Stark WHERE: The kitchen WHEN: Tomorrow morning (forward-dated a bit for us Americans) WHAT: Crane and Hayley test run their truth serum on Harper WARNINGS: None
"I'm ready." Crane said, double checking that his jacket wasn't the one with the fear toxin contained inside. If by some remote chance he was accused of behaving oddly or they got caught, the last thing that he needed was to lose the fear toxin as well as the truth serum. He'd put too much work into the truth serum in particular.
Crane headed to the door, but hesitated on the threshold. Rationally, he knew that what Hayley was doing wasn't that difficult. She'd managed to make the truth serum itself without too much difficulty. But even so, he felt the need to double check.
"Remember, subtle and fast." Crane said. The entire plan would be ruined if someone noticed.
Hayley moved to stand beside Crane, looking up at him with a mischievous smile that might have been a little terrifying on a girl of her size and age. She glanced around the hallway to ensure there was no one in earshot before whispering to him, "Believe it or not? I have done this before."
Yeah, the younger inmate had secrets of her own. She flashed him a grin and then pulled the door closed behind them and began locking it with his key just to encourage him to move faster. The two of them were actually a terrifying team when they worked together; lucky for the Barge, they spent too much time not trusting each other to ever be truly damaging. Harper and, later, the Joker were the exception to this rule and would know at least some of how devastating they could be together.
"Really." Crane wouldn't have bought it, if not for the expression on Hayley's face. Well, that was disturbing. Maybe not that surprising considering how she was actively helping him, but still somewhat disturbing.
"I don't suppose you want to share that particular story?" Crane was curious. Curious enough to wait in the few seconds he should probably use to make sure that he was in the dining hall before Harper was. It was rare that Hayley actually offered up information about herself. And really, Crane was painfully aware that he really ought to know more about her motivations for helping him.
"Maybe another time," she responded dismissively, sadistic grin sliding into something more innocent as she began making her way down the hall toward the dining area and bid him to hurry. Hayley transformed almost immediately from the disturbing inmate with secrets to the innocent and bubbly girl that most of the Barge knew her to be, the reason most people didn't know why she was here.
When they arrived at the dining hall, Hayley immediately diverged to enter the route of the kitchen, separate from Crane. Although everything in the kitchen itself was locked up, it was easy to pass through for an alternate entrance into the dining hall and it gave a nice place to scope out the situation without actively being seen to ensure they timed things right.
