It would be easy to ignore the note were they not both trapped, for all intents and purposes, within the same confined space for the foreseeable future. Ignoring it and taking off for some randomly-selected, distant galaxy would've been the Doctor's first plan of action under normal circumstances. But this isn't normal. At all. From the bit about being trapped in a confined space to the bit about suddenly being around other Time Lords, none of this is normal.

He can guess what this little meeting is about. He'd made the mistake of giving Narvin that utterly insufficient, vague explanation of how the War had ended, and now the Doctor can only surmise what he's thinking, what else he's learned. This meeting is going to happen, whether he wants it to or not. It may as well be now.

The Doctor strides into the CES, hands in his trouser pockets, his outward air of nonchalance only broken by a quick, somewhat startled look around and a slow mouthing of the word "Right". It's decided to look like Gallifrey in here. Well, that's...

"You actually came. I'm surprised."

Narvin clasps his hands in front of him and raises his chin slightly. Formal, distant and aloof. He's not here merely for his own sake. As the last remaining member of the High Council, he's representing Gallifrey. The Doctor may not know it, but he was on trial.

"I'm sure you know what this is about. In your deplorably vague account of how the War ended, you forgot a few pertinent details."

"Oh...I'm full of surprises." He regrets the flippant tone almost instantly, as he's actually feeling anything but flippant at the moment, as much as he might like to pretend otherwise.

At the mention of the War-which, unfortunately, doesn't prove any of his expectations wrong-he gradually lets his expression grow as serious as he feels. As tired as he feels. "I told you everything that mattered at the time. I'm sure the details you have in mind do absolutely nothing to change the truth of what I've told you."

He's fairly sure which details those are, given the company they're keeping on this ship. Company that would be eager to share precisely what the Doctor chose to leave out.

"'Everything that mattered?'" Narvin's attempt at formal impassivity quickly starts to shrivel under his rage. "Are you seriously telling me that you think the fact that you, personally, destroyed our planet, committed willful genocide against the Time Lords--your own people--doesn't matter? That it's a...a triviality?"

He barks a humorless laugh. "And I thought the Master was supposed to be the psychopath."
