Charlie, on the other hand, had his own solution for people like the clerks that bothered his warden. However, as far as he was concerned he owed the man nothing and was only along in the first place on the assumption that completing this "mission" was all it would take to get his Schofields back. Of course, if Sten were to look the other way at any point and just one more person in this strange town decided to act foolish...

But that was neither here nor there at the moment. Charlie responded by picking up a plain face mask and offering it to the warden. "Don't think I need much else, do I?" There was no reason the Admiral should care about the effort the outlaw put in. Hell, at this point, the Admiral should know that Charlie wasn't the sort to play ball, he reasoned. The Admiral, whoever they were, could be grateful he was off the boat with a warden and that was all Charlie thought on the matter.

Sten knew very little about costumes; the idea of dressing as something you were not was, he felt, the sad outcome of a society where, as with Ferelden, no one was satisfied with their lot in life. However, he had a task to complete, and therefore he would put all of his efforts toward it. "That is not a costume. This holiday is about becoming someone other than yourself -- to lie -- at least in appearance. You are more than your face. So look around. What things, to you, would seem a lie if you wore them?"

"I know what a costume is," the inmate snapped in a cool tone. What would seem a lie? That was a stupid way to put the whole "costume" thing and he had a good mind to let Sten know that. "And I don't care. Putting a mask on is the same as hiding your face. And if no one can tell who you are, ain't that the same as wearing a costume?"

Close enough, anyhow.

"You are not even trying," he observed. "Everything that needs to be done might as well be done with the extent of your effort." Not that the barbarian was doing much to help. "What is the opposite of what you are?"
